Subject: [1850] - Eldar - advice needed

Tried creating a list for my Eldar, just looking for advice on weather it will fare OK, if it's even legal and what formations I could use.
HQ
- Eldrad - 195
- Farseer w/Singing Spear 105
Troops
- 5 x Dire Avengers - 65
- 5 x Dire Avengers - 65
- 5 x Dire Avengers w/Exarch with Shimmershield and Powerweapon - 95
- 3 x Windrider Jetbikes w/Scatterlasers - 81
Elites
- 5 x Fire Draogns w/Exarch with Firepike - 135
- 5 x Striking Scorpions w/Exarch with Scorpions Claw - 125
Fast Attack
- 5 x Warp Spiders w/Exarch with Twin linked Deathspinner and powerblades - 130
- Waveserpent w/Twin-linked brightlance - 115
- Wavserpent w/Missile launcher - 135
Heavy Support
- Falcon w/Star Cannon - 130
- Fire Prism w/Shuriken Cannon - 135
- 5 x Dark Reapers w/Exarch who has Starshot missiles - 142
Lord of War
- Avatar of Khaine - 195
Assuming I haven't messed up anywhere that should be 1848 points worth of models.
The Waveserpents are going to be dedicated transports for 2 of the Dire Avenger squads.
The Falcon will be used to deliver the Fire Dragons to wherever they need to be.
Eldrad will probably be with a Dire Avenger squad on foot and the Farseer with the Dark Reapers.
Am I right in thinking I can have an aspect host consisting of the Dark Reapers, Fire Dragons and Warp Spiders?
If I do use that aspect formation can I also use the Dire Avenger Shrine formation for the 3 squads of avengers.
I'm not looking to play competitive games so its only a list for fun games.

If its only for fun games, it will be fine.
Just go for it.

Your list looks fun. Decent mix of firepower, should be able to hold it’s own at the FLGS.
On formations:
Units can only belong to one detachment/formation at a time. Unless it’s a formation consisting of other formations, in which case they belong to both. But if you split all of the DAs off into a formation, that would leave you with only one troop pick left for your CAD. It’s fine to split the other aspects off, as they are not filling required slots.
You can take as many detachments/formations as you want, as long as all your required slots are free. Just make sure everyone is in some sort of structure, otherwise you go unbound.

So i'd need another troop choice to be able to split the DSs off?
If that is the case do you think it would be better to drop one squad of the DAs and use the points to strengthen the other squads?

If you got another exarch, you could manage it with what you have now. Just not the pure DA formation, but two aspect hosts.
CAD:
HQ
- Eldrad - 195
- Farseer w/Singing Spear 105
Troops
- 5 x Dire Avengers - 65
- 3 x Windrider Jetbikes w/Scatterlasers - 81
Fast Attack
- Waveserpent w/Twin-linked brightlance - 115
- Wavserpent w/Missile launcher - 135
Heavy Support
- Falcon w/Star Cannon - 130
- Fire Prism w/Shuriken Cannon - 135
Lord of War
- Avatar of Khaine - 195
Aspect host 1 <BS5 goes here>
- 5 x Fire Draogns w/Exarch with Firepike - 135
- 5 x Dark Reapers w/Exarch who has Starshot missiles - 142
- 5 x Warp Spiders w/Exarch with Twin linked Deathspinner and powerblades - 130
Aspect host 2 <WS5 for these guys?>
- 5 x Striking Scorpions w/Exarch with Scorpions Claw - 125
- 5 x Dire Avengers - 65 <add exarch here>
- 5 x Dire Avengers w/Exarch with Shimmershield and Powerweapon - 95

That's brilliant, thanks.
I reckon I could just add the Exarch and drop the starshot missile from the DR Exarch to get exactly 1850 points.

I’d have to doublecheck, but IIRC all the squads in the aspect host need to have an exarch, so dropping the one from the DRs is not an option. Should be able to shave a few points elsewhere though.
It is worth noting that there are a few drawbacks from moving out of the CAD. The big one is that the DA’s (and their WS) loose ObSec, as that is a trait gained from the detachment bonus. Not a huge deal, but something to keep in mind.
Still worth it, but not without some minor tradeoffs...

Sorry badly worded on my part, I meant to say that i'll keep the Reaper Exarch, i'll just drop to the standard Reaper missiles for him instead of the paid missiles.
I'll have to look into the bonuses i'll loose from moving out of the CAD.

Reading back it was clear, I missed it the first time. Don’t own any reapers personally, so I tend to be fuzzy on what their entry looks like.
The big thing from the CAD is the ObSec on the troops. And while nice, Eldar normally bring enough firepower to blow anyone contesting them off objectives. It’s more important to have on the jetbikes, who have the speed to get to pretty much any objective on the table and say “MINE!” So when looking at something like the windrider battlehost, it’s a major trade.
IMHO opinion, the benefits from the aspect host vastly outweigh just keeping them in a CAD. For the non-troops, it’s a no-brainer. For the DAs, it’s something to ponder, then do anyway. The only reason not to use some of the formations is to intentionally sandbag your list. Eldar are powerful. Crazy so in the right builds. There are times that if you want to get games and keep your friends, you will need to tone it back.
Just to be clear, your list is free of pretty much all the really broken stuff. While you do have one unit of scatbikes and spiders, you are not spamming them. No D, no wraiths. It’s a well balanced list that should be fun to play against. Just be sure you are on the same page as your opponent. If they want to up their game, feel free to tune things up and bring the pain. But if they are playing a more casual list, you might want to forgo some of the extras, just to keep the game fun.

The Scatbikes are magnetized so I can easily swap out the weapons to catapults or cannons (from what i've read most people seem OK with 1 heavy weapon per 3 bikes) so they can be toned down easily enough. Would give me a few points to add a couple of Holofields or something.
Thanks for your help/advice.

Footslogging is a slow way to die.
DA and FD shouldn't hoof around the board. They are shock and awe units.
Not a good list.

There will only be 1 DA squad on foot, the other two would be in Serpents. The FDs will be in the Falcon.
Would you recommend I drop something to add in another Waveserpent?

I'd drop the footsloging DA unit and replace it by Rangers.
