I recently got my 1000pts worth of light infantry imperial guard fully assembled and ready to paint... so last night I painted up a test figure. The theme is that the guard have infiltrated into a building/warehouse - each guard has a completely unique industrial style base, with diamond plate floors, techy looking bits (thanks to a bag full of old ertl star wars model kits), tubes, pipes, etc.

They also all have shortened lasguns, that would be easier to use in a confined area.

So, here he is...

I'm not really happy with the face, but I didn't want to use my super nice Series 7 brushes, so I had to make do with a larger brush and improvised.

Should I take the highlights up farther, into the orange spectrum? I generally like to keep my highlighting subtle, but it might be too subtle on this guy. The base red is VGC Scar Red, over black. Then highlighted with VGC Gory Red, and then highlighted again with really thin GW Blood Red.

Thoughts, comments? Either or both would be highly appreciated

I think the highlighting is fine. I would cut the barrel off and put the compensator (or whatever that is supposed to be) on flush with the end of the rifle to make it shorter. The barrel with no end just looks a little off to me. Lookin good so far!

real nice job. never tried to combine red and grey on an IG but that really looks damn good. the highliting looks ok on the picture but it might be a little too less for the game table.

i like the short gun too,  nice detail.

why so serious ?

I don't have any of the FW cadian stuff.. I wish I did! But alas, FW stuff is abit out of my budget

I do have Kasrkin's though, but I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "dealing" with them. How I will paint them? The actual respirator will be red, with the little nobbies on the side in gunmetal. The goggles will be green.

I actually have a kasrkin in progress that I will probably post later tonight or early tomorrow.. I did some light sourcing on the plasma gun that I am pretty proud of

Looks good!

Couple of nit picks.  the highlight on the lasgun by the battery is a bit too wide, you may want to forgo a highlight in that location at all.

Also, you may want to highlight the helmet one more stage to draw the eye up.

I was thinking of getting some conscripts and painting their body plates red for that "expendable redshirt" look, and it looks like it works pretty well!
