Hey dakka, I am looking for a ton of help here.

With the fun I have been having attempting to outsmart my opponent, and play a very tricky and fast army. After hearing about the Talon Strike Force, the raven guard attracted my attention, because they not only play this way, but they are one of my favorite founding chapters.

However, I have no clue where to start when I try to build a list.

I want a talon strike force, and I was thinking a Pinion Battle company, and the Shadowstrike kill team looks awesome, as do most of the formations.

What does a typical Raven Guard list look like? What works for Raven Guard? Are there any resources I can use to figure out how to play them and get started?

1st link is an article on the merits of the talon strike force and some sample list ideas, 2nd link is a podcast, interview with a tournament winner using RG & talon strike force.

Hope that helps.

Me too. Ravenguard are the only Chapter I feel much interest in. I have Marines buuuuut... never really play them. Like maybe ive played 5 games ever w them. But when I have its with Ravenguard for sure.

Thanks for the resource.

They seem to play very tricky, and are definitely incredibly underrated. Right up your alley Jan

Yes exactly. I admit openly that I dont have the passion for Spacemarines othgers do, but everything I see screams "play me" when it comes to these guys. It fits my...flexible? Way of playing?

I got another game in with my Night Lords which would fight very siilarly to a Ravenuard list.

I play my list with the battle demi company + Brotherhood Assault Wing + Raptor Wing.

I play minimal Tac squads but full squads of Assault and Vanguard Veterans, so that's about 40 guys with Jump packs in a 1850 pts. which fully takes advantage of the Wings of Deliverance chapter tactic.

The Wings of Deliverance Chapter tactic seems like garbage on the outside, but once you realize how it works with the ShadowStrike Kill Team.

Your opponent can't bubblewrap its important units and the such because the turn one vanguard veteran assault teams are skyborn so they ignore intervening units.

I put up a test list in the army list forum, if anybody wants to check it out!

No problemo, see this link for a tournament winning talon strike force:

Pretty under the radar good, with 1st turn assaulting & flyers.

It uses Skies of Death? Or no?

It uses Skies of Death.

Considering that my group doesn't, it makes using a list that is similar quite difficult, but doable using the Raptor Talon.

ITC doesnt use it so at major tournaments (some) it will be less cool. Nonetheless, i can see how it works and i love how simple it really is. it allows a GOOD GENERAL to express it on a pretty interesting canvas.

yes definitely, I would like to personally try it, but my group dismisses it as overcomplicated gak (shame because I have never gotten to use it, considering I was on wargaming leave when it came out)

A few questions for the experienced Shadow Captains out there.

battle demi company, or Pinion demi company, I see the merits of both, but I am leaning towards demi because it is cheaper and Obsec is awesome. Thoughts?

How should I use Shrike? I want to throw him with some assault marines and have them infiltrate up the board hopefully using shrouded to ensure they live to turn two, and have them wrech stuff with Vanguard, but the unit is only really for fun and fluff, because Shrike is a humanitarian badass and one of the reasons I love the RG.

How should I run pinion scouts, and how should I run SSKT scouts? I am just thinking bolters, but CQC weapons could be fun.

I´m curious how you ignore models. When charging you are always along the ground. It is the reason when charging up a building you still have to count each level as 3". You only get to ignore negative modifiers and reroll the charge distance when you use jump packs in assault phase.
