Subject: Thinking about starting again after close to two years, need advice....

Hey guys,
Hope you are doing well, I have been thinking about starting to play 40k again after close to 2 years, I quite right after the beginning of 7th bewcause I got tired of the lack of balance in the game. That being said, I have played other games and at some point, this is a problem that affects most games on some level. So I decide to start playing again because to be honest 40k is the universe I like the most...
When i quit I was playing Guard and Chaos....I sold a lot of my stuff but what remain are guard and some deamons...a few sm marines parts here and there...
I have been told that guards are still pretty crappy so my questions is what should I play...I do not want to play crap like eldar or tau because I hate the power creep thing and hate tau....
I love my guards but I also want to be competitive a bit so is there a way to kick ass playing them?...I was also looking at Skitarii/admech...or was thinking about chaos Khorne demonkin or even full deamon...heard the new chaos book is pretty good.
I have to admit that the new fall of Cadia lords, Caw's, Celestine and stuff are quite amazing models, would not mind buying those....I know I am a bit all over the place but I want a good army that can be competitive and fun to play...also if I can start with what I have that would save a lot of money...any advice?

Imperial Guards don't exist anymore. Or I should say the name has changed to Astra Miliatarium.
Just a warning, rumours are a new edition in less than 6 months. So be very careful what books you buy, and how you model depending if you are a WYSIWYG person or not. BIG changes are happening. What they are, we just don't know yet. So again, buyer be ware.

Agies Grimm:The "Learn to play, bro" mentality is mostly just a way for someone to try to shame you by implying that their metaphorical nerd-wiener is bigger than yours. Which, ironically, I think nerds do even more vehemently than jocks.
Everything is made up and the points don't matter. 40K or Who's Line is it Anyway?

Yeah I saw that, the Astra Militarum..guess it will take some time to sink in, they were always the IG to me....ok so I guess I should be playing with what I have and wait before going all in and purchase anything new...

Don't worry about it, a lot of people still say IG. Just wanted to make sure you knew that, could have thrown you off if things are labeled AM instead of IG now.
While I hate to say to anyone not to buy anything, how often do you think you will be gaming from now till June?

IMO just start slow, and try to get games against non- WAAC players. It takes a while to get the hang of things. The good news is that Chaos and IG can be a natural fit, fluff wise. Just say your guard have gone renegade and you can use the armies together, each faction covering for the weaknesses of the other, just in terms of models that you might have. Ideally you shouldn't feel immediately pressured to purchase new models until you know what direction you want to take your forces in.

Then it could be worth it buying the books then. That is a lot of gaming from now till June, so yeah could be worth it then.
Do you plan on buying any new books or minis? I am not sure if you know about Militarium Temptus. https://www.games-workshop.com/en-CA/Warhammer-40-000?Nu=product.repositoryId&N=102268+4294966407&qty=12&sorting=rec&view=table&categoryId=cat440130a-flat
Could that intrest you at all? Sorry I don't know much about IG so not sure if they are part of it or not. Just trying to help.
