Uthgard is a Classic DAoC freeshard that has been around for years but was taken down about 2 years ago to be rebuilt. After a beta period last year it has finally been launched last week.
Uthgard uses the base game and the Shrouded Isles expansion (this ins't really implemented yet though) and goes up to patch 1.65, the last one before the Catacombs expansion.
DAoC is now 16 years old (....) and was one of the first real '3rd person' MMOs with an Arthurian setting pitting 'Norse' 'Irish' and 'British' factions against each other. The
PvE is grindy and difficult but it is its 3 way open(ish) world
PvP that really made a name for DAoC and it is still reputed to be the best
PvP MMO (with the exception of EvE obviously).
It is a difficult, unforgiving and often obtuse game but it is also satisfying game, even the
PvE grind is enjoyable.
As is common for newly launched servers they are currently imploding under the strain and the log on queue is usually massive but if you can get on it is definitely worth giving this game a try, it is free after all.
