When building my armies, I try my best to keep them within the confines of the back story to the army, it's just my personal preference and it's always worked well for me. That being said, I've been having a hard time doing that with my Thousand Sons army, so I'm looking for a little help. From what I've gathered about the Thousand Sons, both pre and post Hersey they typically follow these certain traits.

1: Soften up the enemy with Psychic assault
2: Don't rely heavily upon the use of Vehicles
3: What vehicles a Chaos Thousand Sons army has, is mostly due to 'looting' it from battle. They don't really focus a lot on maintaining any sort of 'Armory'
4: They due make use of Various 'Robots' through the use of a type of 'mind Control', in one such instance a Thousand Sons sorcerer even mentally controlled a Warlord Titan

With this in mind, I'm trying to come up with ways to 'fill the gaps' in my Thousand Sons army. I think GW really messed up by not giving the detachment some sort of univeral 'Rubric' rule like the Death Guard got, so that limits what my Rubric Marines can do, which is mostly just kill infantry. I'm adding a Heldrake or two to my army (converted using HE Phoenix bits) because, let's be honest, the Heldrake is basicly a DoomWing from Epic. I've also got a Renegade Knight mounting two Thermal Cannons and a Melta Gun (named Ra), I've replaced the head with one from the Phoenix kit and painted it Black with Gold armor (like some of the Egyptian stateus were done). I'm currently working on coming up with a good 'counts as a Fire Lord' vehicle to use, and I'm really hoping GW ill release an updated Silver Tower, but may just convert one using the old datesheet. I've also considered converting some of the Mechanicus and Skitarii models to 'count as' certain Chaos mini's.

I've considered getting the Skitarii Start Collecting box, converting the Tech=Priest to 'count as' a Warpsmith, the Vanguard mini's would be Cultists, and the Dunecrawler could be converted to be either a Forgefiend, or Maulerfiend. I'm also looking at the Kataphron Battle Servitors to be used as Obliterators, and the Kastelan Robots could also fill in as Forge/Mauler fiends. Any thoughts on the matter would be appreciated.

The warlord Titan on prospero was certainly cool.

Can knights take daemonic possession? can helldrakes? Its not a very good upgrade but it can represent the mind control of the sorcerers.

Its a shame TS can't be allies of (at least) convenience with mechanicum, the conversion opportunities of some Tzeench Skitarii would be absolutely smashing.

Any pics of the knight? That seems like a very cool conversion!

Knights cannot be Daemonicly possessed, and Heldrakes already have it.

The Kastelan robots are a excelent choice for conversions

Spoiler:

If you use something else for the heads (I had some defiler heads lying around) the original "plates" can be used to make the Kastellan shoulders a bit more "beefy"
