Potent Possessed Daemonvessel
Why Aye Ya Canny Dakkanaughts!
|
As far as the new Tzeentch releases are concerned, I am really impressed so far: the Tzeentch Daemon formations released in WoM were very nice and some of the new models look amazing! However, I am a bit disappointed by Kairos' model.
(For those who haven't seen it, he's the one on the left)
Now the normal Lord of Change I am quite happy with, there are somethings about it that bug me but nothing that doesn't look to be interchangeable in the new box. But Kairos just looks like a two headed LoC: where's his old age from being thrown into the well of eternity, where are the caps that they are shown wearing in all canon art, besides two heads and his staff, where's his character gone? I feel like they went for 'awesome' on these sculpts, and they got it, but I also feel like less care was taken to sculpt a Kairos Fateweaver that reflects his fluff than it was to make the model look plain Tzeentchy.
I release that I can, and I will, sculpt some extra bits for the Kairos model and get a paint scheme that suits me but it doesn't stop me from getting rubbed up the wrong way by this model. I don't know if anyone feels the same (I know most people were singing praise when the new LoC turned up) but this is just my 2 cents.
Anyone else have any niggles about the new Kairos model?

I love Kairos.
I actually don't like the normal Lord of Change too much, I like it except for the dagger thing and the way its positioned, hopefully it'll come with some posing options (even though I don't plan on buying one, as I don't play chaos at all)

Based on the pictures I am seeing it looks like it comes with several options.

There's another pair of stumpier wings in the kit you're supposed to use with kairos, also a skull head.

The only problem I have with the new LoC is the Same issue I have with the Bloodthirster, they got a lot bigger but did not gain 'Gargantuan Creature'. For something as big as those, I think the rules should reflect it.

LOve them both. But for the age and subtle things I didn't notice yet (though it wasn't up for preorder at the time so ow would I?) check out Warhammer Live if you can from Thursday Jan 26 designer interview talks about how Kairos is different with age in how wings and back sags. There's a bit more explanation obviously than that.

I notice that GW's purposefully not giving those rules to large demons, they're at least being consistant. the blood thrister, kiros and the LoC, magnus the red. consistantly not GCs.
so... least it's consistant

I'm not pushing for an upgrade to the rules, just be consistent with the models, there are advantages and disadvantages to model size. Making them as big as they are, creates issues. If they are supposed to be monstrous creatures, them keep them that size.

No, it isn't just you. I hate GW's scale creep. A T5 model with only a 4++ should not be that size. The LoC is fine at that size, especially if it has the Robes. It is T6 and can be a CC beat-stick. But Kairos? I will be getting this kit eventually, but when I do, it will be a LoC only. At best, I will take some of the Kairos bits to update my current LoC/DP/FW conversion. But it will stay on the 60mm base and be used as either a Tz DP, or Kairos I had the same issue when Pink Horrors got their current plastic kit, and now again that they have been repackaged on 32mm. Squishy 1W, T3 models should be on 25mm bases. Period. I liked the size of the old metal Pinks. So I am actually happy with the Blue Horror kit as I will be painting some of those as my Pinks. If the old metal Pinks are still valid (they are) then the new Blues painted pink are more than an adequate replacement. -

I think the new model is 100% better than the old one. I can't wait to paint it!

I agree the design is much better than the old one, but it needs to have about a 30-50% reduction in size to represent the frail nature of Kairos

I think is this. The model is nice but the scale creep is more and more annoying.

I can agree to this. It is a bit large and I see your point.

Looks pretty badass to me. Painted with an interesting scheme, he'd be a nice centerpiece to your tzeentch daemon army.

It's a really great model. Insanely detailed.
Unfortunately, the Lord of Change doesn't have the stats to match such a large model. So it's borderline silly.
Kairos should get his own unique model. He doesn't look like a character model, he just looks like a Lord of Change with two heads.

This is exactly what I thought, he has lost a lot of character in this new model.
