Subject: Which fire support infantry is most versatile?

So I have 4 units of infantry support and I am trying to sort out which two units of them to commit to my Word Bearers.
My Word Bearers consist of mainly infantry mix with some light armor and AT units:
Jumps Pack Praetor and Chaplain
Layak and Blade Slaves
Gal Vorbak (2 units of 5 or one largish one)
Cataphracti Termie
2 10x Tacticals in rhinos
2 Contemptors (can arm in various ways, Cortus etc)
2 Rapier Lasers
2 Predator Executioners
The 4 units I have on hand but havent started painting yet are:
10x Heavy Support with Volkite Culverin - 45 inch range S6 ray guns. To include these, I would only have points for just them, the other choices I can pick two.
10x Support Squad with Plasma Rifles
2 units of 10x Vets with 2 Meltaguns, 3 combi-meltas these are painted actually and complete
10x Support Squad with Volkite Caliver

Personally, I think vets. are more akin to a specific duty or a support unit rather than actual fire support. With that said: I would either go with the Volkite heavy support squad for the CHOOM-y chuckles, or the plasma squad + volkite support squad to spread your fire power where you need it.

I'm a big fan of the Volkite caliver squad. That 30" range is quite good, and the S6 makes them a threat to even light vehicles.

I am under the Impression that any Volkite is great, but the 30" variety just sounds amazing.

I second the Volkite Calivers. I've never been disappointed in the squad I field. The 30" range is great for camping objectives and the Str 6 even helped my finish off a Knight on side armor. People tend to forget about that.
The heavy is a drawback but once you get them into position the range makes up for it.

I don't know if I even need to voice a third on the volkite calivers. They pack a punch while being cheaper than culverans (both for the cost of the weapon and the cost of the marine).

Ill drop the terminators from the list - they cant run so they arent good a getting to distant OBJ's and dont pack enough long range firepower to OBJ camp in my deployment zone. Ill replace them with the Volkite Support Squad and add 2 Squads of Sniper Veterans that can outflank with plenty of melta.

Culverins vs calivers is a tough call. The former have extra range and 2x the firepower, the latter are like 100 points cheaper for a full unit and score.
I would say if you can take a fortification with an ammo-dump, the culverins are worth the premium, otherwise that's a big juicy target and the cheaper/scoring Caliver support squad may serve you better.
Another thing to keep in mind, volkite chargers are free now for support marines, and they can take CCWs. You can make a pretty nasty CQB unit out of them, especially if your Legion lends itself to melee combat.
