New Black Legion player, need some tips on starting army. I've already ordered a Chaos Lord with Power Axe (using a Chosen model). Death to the False Emperor!

Hello and welcome to that most wretched hive of scum and villainy known to the outside world as dakkadakka.com!

Unfortunately I know next to nothing about chaos or 6th edition (or is it 7th already?). I don't know what models are good/bad. There was a new chaos dex released recently and I'm sure there are unit break downs and stuff out there if you Google it or search these forums.

Money wise you can pick up the chaos half of the dark vengeance box set on ebay for (relatively) cheep. Also the start collecting chaos box set contains a number of units for a nice discount (if you buy it on ebay you get and even greater discount).

For painting and modeling you will need a sprue clippers and a x-acto blade. These are must haves, you can buy them and walmart(x acto) and hoby lobby(spru clippers) or amazon.

Do not buy the gw plastic glue or superglue. They are inferior to pretty much everything else on the market. Instead buy the testor plastic cemment and for super glue use loctite or simular. Also use liquid super glue not the gel. The liquid stuff sets stronger and faster than the gel imo.

For brushes you can use gw or army painter brushes (which are hair) or you can use cheep synthetic brushes from walmart. If you are just starting out and on a budget the synthetic brushes will be good enough.

For primer the gw stuff is obscenely expensive
The army painter stuff is slightly less expensI e and comes in more.l colors. The cheep option is the 99 cent walmart brand matte black and matte white. Krylon fusion matte white is also good however I do not know how easy it is to strip it off a model. Whatever you do however do not prime with glossy spray paint! Glossy spray paint goes on very very thick and normal paint will not stick to it.

For paints if you are on a budget use the folkart brand craft paints from walmart. If money is no concern use valijo or gw or army painter or whatever you want. Recommend that whatever you choose make sure it's water solua le so you can water it down with water.

For washes use the gw washes and army painter strong tone. Army painter strong tone is awesome and not too expensive. Buy it and experiment with it.

I think that's about it. Have fun!

Hi,

Welcome to Dakka
