While digging through one of my many Boxes of Shame, my son came across a bunch of crappy prepainted models for some Blood Bowl knock off. Some of the models would make nifty cyborgs for Rogue Star or some game like that, but the factory paint jobs are both horrendous and thickly-applied. Is it possible , or even worth the effort, to strip them for repainting? For reference, they are similar to MageKnight or Heroclix models.

You can strip them, or often just prime and paint over them - depends on how bad they are. Certain ones are actually okay sculpts which turned out horribly painted.
