Well HH bug bit me and turns out there seems to be growing HH activity in city I work these days. Yey. So I might actually start HH force after all. Been hesitant due to cost but seems I could afford it after all...

Was hard to choose legion. Was toying between Sons of Horus(the green colour scheme is cool, like the Horus model and I find the fall of Horus tragic), World eaters(have had always soft spot for these guys), Dark Angels(my favourite chapter in 40k but that's largely due to post-HH secrecy. Also no idea of how the Primarch will look yet) and Blood Angels(same primarch issue and I like them in 40k side due to the tragic of red thirst which doesn't really apply in 30k). Without idea would I like Primarch models and part of reasons I like them being more 40k specifics I left the loyalist legions(at least for now) so was between SoH and WE. Find white pain to paint(especially large flat areas...Say hello to vehicle painting hell!) so opted for SoH.

Obvious starting point would be the 2 rulebooks containing the army lists and then Betrayal at Calth box with SoH bits. Am contemplating whether to get Horus for painting from the beginning or go for something more useful in smaller games but not sure how much small games I will play before I get remaining parts anyway so starting models would be mostly for painting and since Horus model is big part why I liked SoH in the first place...

But after that where to go to aim for about 2000 pts to begin with? Was looking at the legion support cadre. Twin assault cannon contemptator and SoH specific elite units. Any good? I like the idea of Horus+Justicar deep striking somewhere.

Not sure what vehicle support I might be able to fit there. Horus+justicar+contemptator+30 tacticals(20+10) already seems to eat chunk of points. Maybe I should go primarily infantry heavy force and deny opponents AT firepower worthwhile targets. Well except Horus&co...So maybe some tanks wouldn't be amiss either to draw fire from termie group or shoot at impunity of opponent tries to get rid of them with AT guns?

Is 5 justicars+Horus(plus maybe HQ?) enough or should I be getting 2nd set of justicars? Alone feels small but Horus is 500 pts of h2h nastyness so more than 5 seems too much of a point sink in 2000 pts. Seems like good idea to pad numbers in 3k list though.

I'd recomend tacticals with bolters and ccw for starting, but SoH do better with assault marines as they get more benefits from Merciless Fighters. You'd better start without legion specific units, I've often heard they are on the pricy side and need a good understanding of the roles they can fit.
