So let's get the basics out of the way --> Yes yes, billions of worlds, different levels of technology, some folks in stone age, some on our level of tech, and some much much higher.
Given all that... have we ever heard of any popular music from 40K in BL novels?
Are there any well-known songs/tunes that IG regiments or the Imperial Navy might harken back to when on the move?
Do we have Techno/House/Electronica coming out of Necromunda?
But you get the picture....
Let's move it one step further too - how would you envision a "soundtrack" to your favorite 40K army?
I'm going from memory here but either in Einsenhorn books or in the Cain novels someone mentions hardcore techno in a den in the underhive. From the Cain novels the Guard (at least the higher echelons) do listen to music that ressembles a mix between classical and marching music.
As for the BSO it could be a quite eclectic one.... Imperial guardastartessob etc could be represented by marching music or gregorian chant etc, underhive scene? Techno theme, Chaos (specially noise marines)? something with heavy distortion (i've always felt djent goes well with noise marines), eldar? some sort of ethereal sound wit synths and pads, tyranids? no music to show hhow really alien they are to us, orks or death world? maybe some ethno music
A film in wich somehow every faction was represented equally could have a really interesting BSO, or a video game that really made an effort for their soundtrack istead of just having generic backdrop music.
Quick, someone link the ultramarines chant from chaos gate.

Fang, son of Great Fang, the traitor we seek, The laws of the brethren say this: That only the king sees the crown of the gods, And he, the usurper, must die.
Mother earth is pregnant for the third time, for y'all have knocked her up. I have tasted the maggots in the mind of the universe, but I was not offended. For I knew I had to rise above it all, or drown in my own gak.

The Ciaphas Cain novels give us "The Emperor points and we obey / Through the Warp and far away". There's also the children's song "The tracks on the Land Raider crush the heretic, crush the heretic, crush the heretic / The tracks on the Land Raider crush the heretic, all day long".
Lord Admiral Ignatius Aurum considers himself a connoisseur of ancient Terran antiques and today is the day he has been waiting for. He has had a host of tech priests toiling without rest for decades in order to reconstruct the ancient "record player" and after calling in every favour he could, he now holds an arcane black disc, known only as a "record", in his hands, ready to unlock the secrets of an ancient era now lost.
He places the disc upon the device as the tech magos instructed, presses the activation stud and sits back in his antique reclination throne... at first there is nothing but a faint scratching sound and then...
Tonight, he is the richest man in the Imperium.
While I wouldn't apply this to the typical Oldcrons-esque Necrons, I feel like this fits my cooky and semi-insane royal court who all think they're canoptekh constructs.
The IOM probably has many instruments that are originally from when humanity first expanded outward from Terra and were simple enough to survive the technology crash of the Age of Strife, so they probably share many instruments similar to those of modern day earth. As far as vocals go it's possible to modify the voicebox/mouth/vocal cords of a human/techpriest/servitor, so that's probably a thing. (Servitor pop stars with built-in autotune?)
Given the size of the Imperium there's probably a world somewhere where the only instrument to survive the millennia of conflict and change and become the archetypical instrument is the kazoo. Just food for thought if you can't think of what your Guard regiment listens to.
40k drinking game: take a shot everytime a book references Skitarii using transports.

The new book about Fabius Bile has quite a few musical references. He likes listening to music while he 'works'. Also has Kakaphoni in it, apparently they make psychosonic music, but an acquired taste.
Please note, for those of you who play Chaos Daemons as a faction the term "Daemon" is potentially offensive. Instead, please play codex "Chaos: Mortally Challenged". Thank you.
Humans seem too naturally inclined to make music for me not to believe they don't have music. Orks have Goff Rockers so I'm willing to cut humans some slack and nominate astropath choirs if need be.
