Hello,

My son, aged, nine, has started to show an interest in miniature gaming (painting and playing). He really likes the lizardmen (dinos!) so I am buying the starting box for him, https://www.games-workshop.com/en-SE/Start-Collecting-Seraphon
I have a few High elves from Island of blood that i am going to finish to play with him.

I have downloaded the rules, the high elf and the Seraphon warscrolls.

What else do we need ? (I have all the terrain we will need)

Where can I find points values for High elves and Lizardmen?

/Berg

Since it's only you and your son, you don't need anything else but imagination. When I play with my family anything goes and sometimes the rules go out the window so all have fun.

Do you plan on painting? You don't say if you have paints or not or if you will do the painting or both of you.

While I don't know Age of Sigmar much, I think what you have is good to start with. Play a few games first and see how it goes. Then go onto GW site with your son or better go into a store and then see what minis interest him still.

Maybe buy him the Sepharon book if he still likes them and then go on from there. Just take it slow. I went fast with my son, bought a lot and he lost intrest in modelling but liked playing but with buying too much I couldn't build everything because of work and then he just lost interest. So start slow.

Agies Grimm:The "Learn to play, bro" mentality is mostly just a way for someone to try to shame you by implying that their metaphorical nerd-wiener is bigger than yours. Which, ironically, I think nerds do even more vehemently than jocks.

Everything is made up and the points don't matter. 40K or Who's Line is it Anyway?

Points can be found in the back of the Generals Hand Book, there are also other point value systems people have put together.

GHB points here in easy to use format http://www.scrollbuilder.com/

I have been painting and gaming for 30+ years so I have stupid amounts of paints and miniatures (mostly 40k, flames of war and a lot of other historicals). So we have played with my miniatures before and both he and his younger sister have painted miniatures.

This is the first time that he wanted to start something just for himself and not just play with my stuff.
We will take it slow and see if we can finish some units to play with.

I will get the generals handbook too.

The shape of the bases seems unimportant?

I just had a demo myself this last Saturday, and found out that officially, you measure from the model itself, so the shape of the bases are not important. Nevertheless to make it easier for everyone, in the tournament the store was hosting, they were measuring from the base, whatever shape it had (some had older models on square bases)

I would hate to tell someone not to but the General's Handbook. General's Handbook 2 is being worked on. When it will be released? Who knows. Could be in the summer, could be fall, or maybe even next year. At least it's not that expensive but just be warned though.

As for bases, no they don't matter "legally" but most people play base to base especially when you play pick up games with strangers or at a club/store. As I tell my wife and she keeps reminding me, we never have to go by the rules and we can change anything when you play at home, so feel free to use bases or by the mini.

If you're in the north the community around UmeƄ is huge and wonderful. In the south you gotta find the right folks. You can buy things through the AoS free app as well. Do ask if you need anything.
