Hi,

For some reason I am unable to google up any others asking this. My understanding is that the Angels of Death supplement changed it so that vehicles also have chapter tactics now (for all codex: space marines chapters in the angels of death book atleast) even though they still do not have the rule itself (I will give my reasoning for it below). But I still see a lot of people claiming otherwise. Please prove me wrong if I am.

reasoning:

Pretty simple, The text in angels of death say:
Any Detachment with the Space Marines Faction can be a Salamanders Detachment if all units in the Detachment with the Chapter Tactics special rule are drawn from the Salamanders. A Salamanders Detachment retains the Space Marines Faction and is treated in all ways as a Space Marines Detachment. Salamanders Detachments may also use the following rules:

and then it's just a copy-paste of the Flamecraft and Master Artisans from the codex, with one very important exception! They never mention these rules as being chapter tactics.

So as long as all models in a Detachment that already have the Chapter Tactics rule are Salamanders, I can use it as a Salamanders Detachment. And Salamanders detachments get the flamecraft and master artisans rules. Note that they still don't limit these to only being on models with the chapter tactics rules and don't say that these two rules are chapter tactics. They are now basically just 2 rules that the whole detachment gets.

And last, the Flamecraft rule says
...Salamanders models can re-roll failed To Wound rolls...

So that rule goes for atleast all Salamanders models.

So the only problem I can find with my reasoning is that nothing explains what a "Salamanders model" is. The two logical choices in my opinion being: a) A model from a Salamanders Detachment, note again that the quoted text above tells us all models in a Salamanders Detachment atleast have the flamecraft rule (even vehicles, the question is if they can use it). Or b) A model with the Salamanders Chapter Tactics. My logic would say "a" but please explain why you would disagree.

This is answered in the FAQ. No vehicles don't get chapter tactics (except for Iron Hands because their CT specifically says their vehicles get to benefit from CT).

Also, specifically in relation to this:

Chapter Tactics explains this:

"The rules will often refer to a model, character or unit by its Chapter; in all cases, this refers to a model, character or unit with the Chapter Tactics special rule that is drawn from the given Chapter."

A Salamanders model therefore is a model with the Chapter Tactics special rule that is drawn from the Salamanders Chapter.

The FAQ seems pretty clear on the intention being that it only works for iron hands. I do however still think that as they have written it, it is still not clear RAW as the question and answers is regarding a specific case where you have a detachment of only vehicles and also don't say why they don't work for others. Because remember, the case with angels of death is that these rules are not given to the models because of chapter tactics, they are given to all models in the detachment because it's a special rule for the detachment.

Mr. Shine however found a clear answer for me. That answer explains perfectly why, even though the vehicles technically have the flamecraft special rule, they can't use it as they aren't "Salamanders Models".

Thanks guys

Iron hands vehicles do not have/gain CT. Vehicles in an Iron hands detachment gain IWND. Slight distinction but important.

Especially with the new multifaction detachment.
