I'm just getting back into painting after more than a decade away, with the exception of a short stint a few years ago when I messed around with the new Citadel paints and using a wet palette. Most of my experience is based on a simple base-wash-drybrush style to get models ready for the tabletop, but this time around I'm interested in working on my layering technique. I really dislike the Citadel paint pots, and enjoyed my (limited) experience with a wet palette, so I'm interested in recommendations/experience with using either Reaper Master Series or Vallejo Game/Model Color paints with a wet palette, focusing on basic layering and edge highlighting.
I know that these things are subjective, and I'm aware that there's variation across lines, but for now I'm interested in picking one line and working on my basic techniques (while also trying to get a 2000 points Deathwatch army ready for some games). I'd appreciate thoughts on the relative benefits/drawbacks to using one of these three lines for this style of painting, things to watch out for, etc. I'm also not averse to some small amount of mixing/matching - for example, if the Citadel metallics are consistently better than the Reaper/Vallejo options then I'm happy to go with one primary brand for non-metallics and another for that subset (similarly, I quite like the Citadel washes and plan to use them).
