Came up with this list as a first one to try with points with local friends. Will be facing the Stormcasts from the starter set along with 3 units of 3 Dragon Ogres and 1 Dragon Ogre Shaggoth. (We know not allied but he loves them from WHFB and I'm fine with him using them. He's kind of running a "thunder gods" theme/narrative army.) General idea is fast and hard hitting with a few "monster killers".

Chaos Sorcerer Lord on Manticore (240)
Be'lakor Daemon Prince of Chaos (240)
Mighty Lord of Khorne (140)
- General
Valkia (120)
Chaos Warriors (2 units of 10) (360)
- Hand Weapon / Shield
Chaos Knights (1 unit of 10) (200)
- Ensorcelled Weapon
Flesh Hounds (2 units of 10) (200)

141 Wounds 1500pts.

Main idea would be Manticore after the Shaggoth and Be'lakor after the Celestant on Dracoth. Thinking Manticore on Shagg due to Shagg being "monster" and Manticore having "Territorial Predator" which is reroll of 1s on it's talons attack if within own territory. Not big, but somethin extra. Valkia lingering to support either or both. Lord of Khorne running with the knights for fast run/charge and more punch on whatever gets in the way. Hounds randomly tying up units till hard hitters get to them. Warriors tie up Ogres / push into Stormcast Ret/Lib/Pros ranks. Etc.

Is this list considered cheese? General strategy sound about right or am I missing something? Thanks in advance for any input.

No bloodsecrators?

Those guys are literally a God send for any Chaos armies, especially if you go with Khorne marks? Also, almost half your points are on heros, that seems quite expensive?

Personally with the 740 you've spent I would run with:

Bloodthirster of Insensate Rage - 280 - General w/ Runesword & Lord of War Trait
Be'lakor - 240
Sorcerer Lord on Steed - 140

The Lord of Khorne will struggle to keep up, and Valkia is not needed where a D thirster can out perform the Manticore and Valk together. Lack of a 3D6 command trait is a bummer but...

Flipping to just the Sorc on steed, allows you to re-roll 1 on armour saves (I'd recommend Be'lakor) as that a 3+ re-rolling 1's (unaffected by rend/assuming you cast mystic shield on him).

The spell daemonic power, allowing re-rolling 1's on hits, wounds and saves should go on the D Thirster. (The D'Thirster is now hitting on 3's, re-rolling 1's, wounding on 2's re-rolling 1's)*Using the Lord of war trait on himself

As for your standard boys. Any reason you're taking the warriors/knights/hounds? Just the models you have or?

As if your using the Chaos allegiance there are some much cheaper battle line units, and other elites that out perform those listed.

Assuming that's the case:

Keep the Knight unit, but take the glaives. They are also good vs models that cause mortal wounds due to their 5+ save. (Knights are powerful on the charge, but not great at staying in combat)

I'd then suggest two units of 10 Marauders at 180 points to fill up your battleline slots, to run off for objectives, or be a general nuisance. (These replace your hounds)

Your now free to take the chaos warriors as a full 20 man unit, and benefit from the re-roll 1's on saves. (360)

That would leave you with another 100 points. Possibly another 5 man Knight unit to support Be'lakor or D'Thirster if they have to run of exposed.

Thanks,

Honestly I'm new to the game and just trying out all kinds of stuff.

Agreed on the Mighty Lord of Khorne. He couldn't keep up per say. Think I'd opt for Khorne Lord on Jugg next time. Be'lakor is just awesome. He'll be included in most builds I try.

As far as the choice for warrs/knights/hounds, partially yes, I have the models and also I was looking to try a highly mobile build. Also, the hounds always seam to perform well. In 40K and AoS. Mobile, can take some hits, can deal 'em out and most important, good for tying up units till the harder hitters can get to them. Chaos warrs seam to be pretty "tanky" so far too and don't go down as fast as say Bloodletters or Reavers. I like the idea of a cluster of 20 with the rerolls. I will definitely try some of your suggestions this coming weekend.

What do you think for adding in some ranged? What are some good troop options for that? Rat Ogres have a decent ranged weapon and also the Warplock Jezzels. I can't help but think a 2 or 3 squad cluster of them focus firing stuff would come in handy. Esp with a 30" range. 3 squads would be 18 incoming shots with 2 wounds and -2 rend. Ouch!! Also some flamers of Tzeentch seam to be a good choice as well.
