I'm still trying to settle on a legion, and one of the legions I'm leaning heavily towards is Night Lords. As such, I was wondering what peoples thoughts are on the Night Raptors? How many should be taken in a unit? How should they be equipped? Should any ICs be attached? Also, what is the general opinion of the Horror Cult RoW? Is it worth it or not really?

Horror cult is mediocre game play wise but really fluffy and it can still be used. If fielding raptors I'd consider a combination of curze apothecary and chaplain. Arm them as you see fit bring a melta bomb or two. I wouldn't run to many units of night raptors supplement them with normal assault marines maybe to increase bodies.

The problem with alot of cc units is yes their great at what they do. Unless you have a relatively safe delivery method its a case of how many points do you want to lose to a 5 inch blast. Since their basically the same as normal marines in regards to suvival.

Well, their special rule just got buffed (a talent for murder) giving them now +1 to wound AND to hit if they outnumber at initiative. That and the drop in price of assault marines has been a nice buff for night raptors. Charge in, hammer of wrath down a few guys, now you outnumber them at init 4 and get the buff.

As for the horror cult, like said, its fluffy, but the tried and true angel's wrath is stronger with night lords, though you can't take raptors as troops. Now with the drop in price for assault marines, raptors are a little pricey for what you get. Their cost still factors in the old FW formula for a jump pack.

My personal favorite RoW for the night lords is terror assault. Almost guaranteed night fighting, infiltrating terror squads, deep striking terminators, it just feels very night lords-esque

My thoughts on night lords:

Hobby side:
1. the color scheme is easy to make look good, Dark blue with light blue highlights; light blue lightning with white high lights. Black wash in recesses. Accent with a little steel color and you are golden.
2. They use a lot of MK IV. these can still be had cheaply on EBAY.
3. You can make a solid list that is built around betrayal at calth plastic (this is a very big plus monetarily speaking)

Play side:
1. post update, they are considered in the top 3 for legion strength (this is either a pro or con depending on your play)
2. fear matters in 30k
3. they play very much like their fluff

As said above I think night lords are super easy to make fluffy and are some of the best fluff to rules conversion even in the heresey. They were defintely a legion I strongly considered.

Personally I don't like the Terror Assault RoW because I don't really like Terror Squads. I don't know what it is about them, they just don't appeal to me. The main draws of Night Lords for me are Curze (Who imo is awesome and will likely make an appearance in most of my lists if I do choose them) and the Raptors.

As another question, does anyone have any advice for converting Night Raptors because I'm not quite sold on the official models?

I kind of like the official models but otherwise the now replaced old chaos raptors could have looked really cool especially with the chain Glaive upgrade set. You also may be able to work by mixing the current raptor box with some prospero or calth marines.

The chain Glaive upgrade set also can make them a bit more flavourful I think it's a decently dynamic kit.
