Hello,

So looking over the CSM codex, and the Errata from GW, there is a part under Champion of Chaos where it says anytime a model with Champion of Chaos kills a character they roll on the boon table. It later goes on to say that a if a champion adds to the wound pool and one of those wounds goes through, they get to roll. Does this mean that when I take a group of plasma chosen, and they wipe out a SM unit with a sergeant, the champion would roll on the boon table, as long as their weapon added to the pool? I have only been rolling on the boon table as a direct result of winning a challenge and did not realize that there is more to the rule. If anyone has any clarifications, that would be helpful, please comment.

That's a tricky one.
If the Sergeant used a combi-plasma as a Plasma gun, and a character was killed with Plasma guns, then he would get a roll on the boon table.
If the sergeant fired a Boltgun, and a character was killed with Boltgun fire, then he would get a roll.
HOWEVER, if he was not in the correct pool - Firing a boltgun, but the character was killed by Plasma, for example - Then he wouldn't get the roll.

Since the shots from the champion are affected by a special rule which the normal shots do not (I.e. Champion of Chaos), they would be separated into their own Wound Pool - use different coloured dice to differentiate.
There's bound to be someone that points out I shouldn't do this, as it's not a special rule that the weapon itself has, but I find it's the easiest and fairest way to handle the situation. YMMV.

That's because you shouldn't lol. Though if you want to be really pedantic you could use different coloured dice for the shots of the champion in that same pool and then save with the dice you rolled to know if it was the champions shot that killed the character.
In order to save each others sanity though I suggest you just roll everything as normal and if the enemy character happens to die in the process then just roll on the table.
It's not like the table is so good that you need to be so detailed about it.

Hmm ok, I am now curious as to what would happen if I have more than one character with the champions rule, would they bother roll for a boon, or would I specify one? Has this been FAQ'd at all?

that would get even more complicated.

i would say..... hmm....... roll those with different die (both to hit & wound)

then save with diff die

if any of the diff die wound = boon for that character

honestly..... this boon table is quite banana's when you add multiple characters into a single unit

imagine a death star chaos one

We simplify it. If during a units shooting attacj, the champ does a wound and then the character dies from same said unit shooting then that's a roll. It follows the intent of the rule and FAQ and simplifies it.
