* When using a 2 handed weapon can a model still use a pistol?

* Do BA need a lot of ranged weapons to be competitive?

* What models should I avoid that might be replaced by a special unit when book 8 drops? The only unit I can think of is sanguinary body guards.

* Do models with combat shields have to have a shield? (I haven't seen any shields for sale)

* Were librarians during the Horus heresy a different armor color for BA?

* Dreadnoughts can take both a standard drop pod and Dreadnought drop pod. Is the only difference the dedicated transport?
* Is the death storm drop pod with assault cannons a standard GW kit with the assault cannons added in? (I ask because I want the assault cannon off the kit and not to make a deathstorm)

* Which book has the rules for Zone Mortalis?

* Would the rotor cannon be a tournament legal substitute for an assault cannon for competitive play?

* When is says no more vehicle units than infantry units. That means I could take a tank squadron of 3 and only have 2 units of infantry correct?

* I read that there was a difference between a standard and Vexilla. I can't seem to find that entry again(help).

* I can't decide if I want to stick to one type of armor or just have different types of armors with in my army. Which would look better in your opinion?

I currently have the Calth box and plan on turning 20 into troopers with bolters and a 10 man Vet squad with bolters. The terminators will have a pistol and CC weapon. Dreadnought will have 2 Kheres assault cannons or melee weapon with 2 assault cannon built into the hands. I want to stick to the day of revelation RoW.

These are the models I plan to buy. Please feel free to tell me what models aren't worth buying or how to equip my unit. Also welcome to suggestions on what to buy.

* 3 Deimos Rhinos

* 6 Apothecary models (3 foot and 3 jump pack)

* 20 man tactical squad-10 will be a support squad with all plasma guns and 10 into a seeker squad.

* 3 20 man assault squads. One squad will be striped of their jumppacks to be given to other models and made into a CC tactical squad.

* Armoured Incursion force

* 3 Javelin speeders with lascannon

* 10 Jet bike squadron.

* Xiphon or Fireraptor

* Storm Eagle

* legion champion and master of signal (thinking of turning the champion into a praetor with blade of perdition)

* Command set

* Command Rhino

* Heavy support squad with 10 lascannons

Ok, I will do my best to answer as good as possible: (I will also add rule-page references later today)

1. Yes can use it for shooting but not claim the extra attack in CC.

2. Depens on your play-style,in contrast to 40k CC is stil a valide option in Heresy.

3. There has not been a word on BA special units, so your guess is as good as mine.

4. Yes if you take shields, the models need shields. (best way is either srab-build them, or take for example those of the Skitarii hoplites)

5. The same as the other Legions so no.

6. Dreadnoughts in Heresy can only take Dreadnought Drop pods.

7. There is no assault cannon Option for the drop pods, not even for BA, as you are only allowed to replace flamer or the predator turret. So you can only take a Deathstorm with krak or frak missiles.

8. Heresy book one, but you can also find them in the download section of the Forgeworld homepage.

9. Depens on the individual tournament.

10. No it counts per Vehicle Modell. So if you play a squadron of 3 you need 3 Infanterie units.

11. Standards are carried only by command squads and have better rules then vexillias.

12. Totally up to your decision. Just avoid MK VI and up.

How many points are you trying to put together and how cost sensitive are you? Your heavy support squad might be more flexible with missile launchers, which you can get from the BaC boxes. You will need a Seige Breaker to go with them. Magnetize the arms of your assault marines so that you can change up their loadouts. Not sure if you ever plan on running 6 apothecaries at once or just need to flexibility. If the latter, magnetize the backpacks. Super easy to do and it'll save you both time and $.

* Do BA need a lot of ranged weapons to be competitive?

Honestly, kinda. I use at least 20 assault marines every game, and go as high as 40, and to help protect these guys before they get into hand to hand I'll back them up with a solid alpha strike from my own shooting units, like tanks and mortis dreads.

* What models should I avoid that might be replaced by a special unit when book 8 drops? The only unit I can think of is sanguinary body guards.

As far as I know only sanguinary guards have been mentioned in the novels, but that would be extremely boring if our only special unit is one that already has models. I'd bank on them, probably veteran assault squads, and THEN WHO KNOWS, I'M EXCITED.

* Do models with combat shields have to have a shield? (I haven't seen any shields for sale)

Yeah man, and don't worry, they look cool so the trouble of acquiring them is worth it (also they're a rock solid upgrade for your assault squads). There's a plastic combat shield bit for 40k you can get off of ebay pretty easily. Plastic grey knight shields are also pretty perfect for this too. Heck, even plastic fantasy shields work.

* Were librarians during the Horus heresy a different armor color for BA?

I've been painting mine blue, so if this is wrong WHOOPSTH!

* Dreadnoughts can take both a standard drop pod and Dreadnought drop pod. Is the only difference the dedicated transport?

I don't think dreads can take standard drop pods in 30k...

* Is the death storm drop pod with assault cannons a standard GW kit with the assault cannons added in? (I ask because I want the assault cannon off the kit and not to make a deathstorm)

Just use ebay to get assault cannon bitz.

* Which book has the rules for Zone Mortalis?
uhhh...

* Would the rotor cannon be a tournament legal substitute for an assault cannon for competitive play?
I know of other people who have talked about doing this, including the event organizers at adepticon, so I don't see a problem with this. It's kind of a sucky unit tho...

* When is says no more vehicle units than infantry units. That means I could take a tank squadron of 3 and only have 2 units of infantry correct?

I've always built my list as more infantry units than VEHICLES, not vehicle units. Ie, you need 3 units of infantry to unlock 3 vehicles, squadron or no. I've seen tournaments rule otherwise. It's not that severe of a disadvantage though, as keep in mind every HQ choice is an infantry unit. A single apothecary is an infantry unit. One attack bike is an infantry unit.

* I read that there was a difference between a standard and Vexilla. I can't seem to find that entry again(help).

Yup, vexilla buffs morale, standards buff melee. I don't use either so I'm not up on the rules.

* I can't decide if I want to stick to one type of armor or just have different types of armors with in my army. Which would look better in your opinion?

My army is a little hodgepodge since I built it out of a converted 40k army. I like to think of them as a circa siege of terra army, so at that point they'd be looking a little ragtag, with mixed up armor made out of whatever components they could scavenge that still functioned. It still looks cool and it totally works, but I'll admit there's a certain aesthetic appeal to having a late crusade or early heresy army that would have all units in matching marks of armor.
Oh, and don't listen what that other dude said about avoiding mkvi and vii armor. Blood Angels were at the siege so would have had access to all marks. Just don't go too hard on the MkVIIs! (my army is less than 5% MkVII for example).

GOOD LUCK BROTHER!
