There are pieces available from numerous 3rd party supplies who allow you to make them...or is that "stupid money"?

There are now several companies doing pith-helmeted guard and it's become more affordable than paying stupid money for old GW sculpts on ebay (even then, they were just mordians with a headswap).

Even just using plastic cadians with a headswap can work if you are willing to do the epaulettes on commander models (only the big officers would have them).

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.

That's exactly what Ive done.

Body is from the IG Tank Upgrade Sprue, Head is from WHFB Pistoliers, arms are IG Sergeant and the epaulettes are greenstuff.
I agree, in my army i think only Sergeants and above will have epaulettes, but they were actually much easier than I expected, so I may even carry on doing them for everyone.

I'll join the rest on the "too close" commentary on your pic. Other than that, looks great.

Mad Robot has heads, arms, legs and torsos that would give you plenty of Praetorian styled equipment.

Ramshackle makes these heads that I love.
Great company, cool sculpts and a pleasure to do business with. Highly recommend them.

Thanks PourSpelur, Those look awesome, but I dont want my blokes to have respirators.

Here is what I have so far. Running low on heads now, but more coming in the post from Victoria, can't wait!

Slow progress, making Epaulettes is slow, but im getting better!

Gonna start a blog soon called Pith Wizard as soon as I get my decent camera back.
C&C always very welcome.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

Th main problem with Praetorians in my opinion is not sourcing the infantry, that bit is easy. Ultimately if you dont mind the scale chang you can get 28mm Zulu war historicals and head ansd hand swap them and add a sliver of height in the middle with plasticard.

The main problem will be vehicles. While an infantry list is possible its not very viable for IG, and it means sourcing even more Praetorians, more than is practical to field. However most IG tanks dont gel with the Victorian vibe, they get the rivet feel right sometimes, Baneblade for instance;but what you need are landships with wooden decks and deck mounted guns.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion. By the juice of the brew my thoughts aquire speed, my mind becomes strained, the strain becomes a warning. It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion.

These are colonel Gavis's designs, they're good: Just don't lick them, the metal has lead in it.

Victoria minitures:

I really like both, I'm planing on using the Victorians with the GW Preatroians for other things i.e. command squads and Sargent.

Coruios constructs I use for my cavalry.

CC matches the GW scale very, very well.

It's porablly the best place to get mordian style torsos, and will be cheeper than pisoliers, unless your plaing an entire army of outriders, or selling them?

I highly recommend the Empire Steam Tank, if they're still making those. Can easily fit as either a Leman Russ or Chimera with a minimum of modifications, while some larger modifications can instantly turn them into Siege mortars or even basilisks.

I dont disagree, but this is 40k. Each planet raises it's own army and has it's own customs, but equipment is made to imperial spec, so an army with strange uniforms would still be supported by modern armour.

However, I agree with the sentiment and for thematic reasons, I'm going with Rough Riders (Dragoons/Lancers) and when i bought the heads from Victoria I also bought some wheels for the Taurox. It wont be perfect, but should look slightly less out of place. Other than that the only other armour I'm planning is a single Leman Russ.

It's only gonna be a 500pt Army.

You could still avoid that. How many do you have with epaulettes? Cut them into Veteran squads if you have only a few, and avoid epaulettes if you structure a platoon. Or you could modify them a bit with new weapons from Anvil (their lighter regiment weapons like the carbines come with spare left hands just for the case of Cadians) and make them into a unit of Scions.

Good tip Saur, thanks.

I'm making slow progress but I'm actually pretty happy with them. Wish I had my good camera with me.

That army batch looks absolutely amazing. Great job for that effort!!!

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

Quick update. Not 100% happy with the horses, but I lost interest after a while. Got too many riflemen that need my attention!

CHARGE!

Yeah.,. when I get to my own Rough Riders, I've promised myself I'll give the horses a lot of character. Having been around them a lot in my youth, I'm looking forward to doing a number of different colouring patterns for them. Doubt I'll do a Paint, but certainly a broad colouring for the horses without a doubt.

35 Guardsmen done, getting very very tired of making epaulettes, so I thought I would have a go at something else for a while:

C&C as always, very welcome.

avoiding the lorax on Crion

Bonus points for one who looks like michael cane in Zulu.

Some older style wheeled heavy weapons fits like old fashioned cannons that got modern guns.

Not the tripod, but a wheeled gun carriage.

Sgt. Vanden - OOC Hey, that was your doing. I didn't choose to fly in the "Dongerprise'.
