So there are some battle tomes and some campaign books and sometimes it's obvious which miniatures they line up with, but I'm not sure about Nurgle.

Are there books that deal with Nurgle at all? Was there a general chaos alliance book or something?

The Grand Alliance book has all the rules for the current Nurgle models. I'm not sure about campaign books, but All Gates and God Beasts seem to mention Nurgle. GW also previewed Death Guard for 40k at Adepticon (or was it GAMA?). Some of the design elements definitely had a medieval feel, so I wouldn't be surprised to see an AoS Nurgle update shortly after that release. Tzeentch got his AoS update about a month after 40k got new Thousand Sons.

palace of the plague lord may be the best book I read from gamesworkshop ever. Features tzeench and nurgle going at it.

I think Nurgle feature heavily in every campaign book (all the realmgate wars books and the original campaign book), because Nurgle is the major antagonist in the Ghyran the realm of life and in the story of Alarielle's rebirth.
