Hey all

Anyone used Humbrol Clear for dipping canopies?

If so what did you think of it?

Cheers

I could never get it to work well for dipping. Apparently Future works better but you can't get it easily out here so I tried Humbrol Clear and didn't like the results. Humbrol advertising it as a dipping option, so maybe I was just doing it wrong, or maybe I was doing it right and just wasn't impressed with the results.

I gave up trying to dip canopies and now I polish them instead. I had written a tutorial somewhere about polishing canopies using a dremel but I can't remember where I posted it and don't have the free time right now to find it.

To polish a canopy I use a foam polishing pad (bought from an automotive store) cut it in to small ~1.5" diameter circles and just jam it in the dremel. I then use Tamiya polishing compounds and polish it up. It only takes a few minutes to do. If there's heavy scratches you might have to sand it with a very fine sandpaper first (2000 or higher) to get rid of the scratches before polishing.

If you don't have a dremel (or other rotary tool) you can still polish it, but be prepared for a long and painful process. The rotary tool makes it quick and easy.

Cheers for all this information

My sense was that the humbrol stuff wasn't going to be great.
