Hello all.
I'm Brera and i am a long time Warhammer 40k fan. Though i have never actually played the tabletop game, nor have i owned any miniatures, i have been playing the videogames(Final Liberation was my first introduction to this wonderful universe) and reading the lore since i was a kid. As a kid, living at home with my parents in a small villige and with internetshopping not existing yet, (and not having the money) i was sadly unable to get into the figure collecting. Anyway, i recently got back in touch with an old friend of mine, and he is fully into 40k collecting and stuff. This immediatly fueled my interest to get into it aswell. So, i ordered a starting set, this one:
I'm gonna be painting it tonight. But i'm kinda lost where i should go after that? Apparently the Space Marine codex is going to be updated? So is it wise to invest in current Space Marine stuff, or should i wait for the new codex?

It's going to be a new edition. Which most likely launch in June somewhere. Most of the rules are going to be free. Rumor's going there's a Space Marine/DeathGuard starter box on it's way with it's launch

But if you already want to start either the current starter set or the Start Collecting boxes is a good beginning. Highly depending on what you want to play. Since you got Dark Angels, Space Wolves, Blood Angels and Vanilla Marines. Just don't buy a codex yet.

Or you can try out Shadow Wars. The rulebook is coming up and the army rules are findable online.

Poor ignorant guardsmen, it be but one of many of the great miracles of the Emperor! The Emperor is magic, like Harry Potter, but more magic! A most real and true SPACE WIZARD! And for the last time... I'm not a space plumber.

Hi there. Welcome back,

If you can get a codex for little money, it will probably have more fluff and background in it than the new books. The old fluff is still valid, as historical records and hearsay.
If you want to get playing before the new version drops (1-2 months yet, I expect), get the codex and a copy of the rules. They should be going really cheap, too.
But, if you want to get into the new version clean and fresh, without the baggage of a previous version, wait a bit.

Kill Team is a good and slimmed-down version of 7th ed.

Thanks guys! So i guess i'll wait for the new codex to come out, but in the meantime i'll start assembling my army.

I heard a rumor though, about the size of the new miniatures not being the same as the current ones. Is this true? I'd hate to have different sized Space Marines in my army, cause that would look ridiculous.

Hi,

Welcome to Dakka
