Bounding Dark Angels Assault Marine

Hi everyone! So I am getting ready to go overseas with the military and it's looking like I'm about to have a whole lot more free time to hobby. I'm excited for about half of that sentence...I'll let you figure out which half. Anyways, I'm taking that time to build/paint a brand new 40k army and decided this will be the perfect time to build/paint an army for AoS. I really want to plan out my purchases so that 1) I can make sure it's stored/packaged right to take up minimal space and 2) don't have to try and ship stuff. Now the problem I have is that I don't know a damn thing about AoS really other than that its a pretty fun game. I'm really excited about getting into it but wanted some help in trying to pick an army since I really don't know what they do.

Right now I'm leaning towards the Stormcast Eternals or Khorne. I love the models for both factions, especially the Lord-Celestant on Stardrake. That model is just awesome. I'm also leaning towards Khorne because I could use the demons models in 40k for the same army, a kind of 2 for 1 deal.

I'm also competitive by nature, not WAAC necessarily, but would like to have a decent showing at tournaments and wasn't sure if one of these armies would automatically start at a disadvantage, which may be a dumb question as I hear AoS is a lot more balanced than 40k as of right now.

My next question is what points level should I shoot for? 1000, 1500? I'm not sure what is considered a standard tournament points size or if there even is one.

Finally, what models should I go for? For Stormcast I'd really like to include the Lord-Celestant on Stardrake if I can. For Khorne its Skullcrusher's and Bloodthirsters.

Anyways, I really appreciate any help/advice! Thanks everyone!
