Hey, my mum is thinking about getting into AoS, and she really likes the look of some of the Death units. What sort of units are good and what sort of units should be avoided?

She likes:
- Nagash
- Hexwraiths
- Manfred, Arkhan the Black and Neferata
- Both Morghast units
- Mortis Engine/Coven Thrown
- Spirit Hosts
- Terrorgeist/Zombie Dragon
- Skeleton Warriors

Could that list of units make a good army? Any advice would be welcome. She's not looking to make a really powerful list, just something that could hold its own against Stormcast and Silvaneth (who she'll usually be facing)

Cheers

There isn't much death has to offer outside of the Grand Alliance battle tome, The only other army they can form is the Flesh Eater Courts.

Unless your going with a pitched battle with points, you can still use a Path to Glory campaign or just collect a nice looking army and putting it all together. You might want to look into the cards themselves to find out how you can get more bang for your buck. But Death armies tend to have weak basic troopers but they're practically endless.

Depends what your goal is. If its just for giggles then just take what appeals.

If you want competitive with that list go with Legion of Death Battalion and take a few infernal standards and you'll have a horde that is very hard to kill.

Alternatively you can take a Ghoul King on terrorghiest with +1 to deathless minions and launch an angry unit at the enemy that has an armour save and 2 5+ addition saves.

In my very limited experience:

Skeletons can work. Getting the extra attack for size is huge. So 20-30 man blocks seems to be the way to go IMHO. Stick a buff or two on them and they can deliver. Against things that cause rend they fold like a wet paper bag; against things without, you might be adding more guys to the unit then they can kill per turn.

I’ve been playing the formation that requires 3 skeletons, 1 grave guard, 1 black knights, and a wight lord. It’s been doing OK by me.

My theory crafting is that spirit hosts are going to fill the gap that rending units leave in my army. Good chunk of wounds, immune to rend, and a possibility to do some mortal wounds (good vs. people using armor re-roll tricks)

When I took my vampire on a dragon out for a spin, he did well for himself. I just finished assembling Manfred, I think he’s going to help a lot as well.

AoS seems to be about synergy and buffs. Look for units that help other units, and not just pure beatsticks.

Hey, thanks for the feedback
She seems interested in the hosts and skeletons.
She's going for skeletons, Morghast, vampire lord on a dragon and some spirit hosts and go from there. She'll probably also check out that battalion once she's collected enough.
