Hello Dakka, I need your hobby wisdom. Remember that pic in the 4th ed 40k rule book of the Slann/Slanni alien? The one with the firepike looking weapon? [ http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/mediawiki/images/4/47/Slanni.jpg ] Long story short this has inspired me to try and make my own 40k lizardmen, degenerate time lost remnants of the old ones, or something like that.

I've been through google images and whatnot but now i need some more specific ideas. The arms, in particular are bugging me. I could give a saurus kroot arms, it's true, but the kroot has one less finger than the lizardmen, and only a single variety of weapon arms, meaning both a lack of variety and inconsistency with other lizardmen models, should the kroot arms be used.

Potentially i'd fit them as tau allies, and could give them tau arms, but i don't want them to just look like lizardmen dressed as tau, and would like them to have a more stand alone feel if possible.

So, basically, any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

here are actual GW rogue trader Slann models:

http://solegends.com/citads1988a/198802rt1/fly8899rt1f2-tsf18slann-01.htm

I used to have a old rogue trader buying manual I found at a yard sale and remember these guys and thinking that they looked awesome, but fell in love with actual orks instead. I started playing around 3rd Ed and couldnt find the Slann models.

they look more like Frog Men than Lizards. And whos to say the amount of fingers they have is exact, maybe the planet where they are from is different or something.

Can you cut off the spear from the hand and replace it with a weapon other than the kroot rifle? (pinning will hold it better)

The Kroot rifle had looks like you could fit something round in the finger gap to give it a "middle" finger (woodland scenics sells tubes of plastic card)

Good Luck! hope to see some WIP or some completed peices

Thanks for the reply, i've never seen those models before.

You're right about the kroot hands, The gaps between the fingers are pretty large, so something could be done there.

The main thing i've found about using the actual lizardmen arms is that it's difficult to get a good "cradle" on the models left hand, so the gun looks like it's sitting on top of the hand, rather than being gripped by it. I might have to learn how to GS to do it properly....

Bur yeah, thanks again for your reply man. I'll try to get some WIPs up once this gets rolling, a completed piece might be a bit of a stretch, can't remember the last time i completed a model...

Cheers.

You could work with the Savage Orruk arms https://www.games-workshop.com/en-US/Bonesplitterz-Savage-Orruk-Arrowboys

They don't have stuff attached at the wrists and they are primitive looking. May help with some of the stuff you want to do.
