Hi guys! I've finally bought my first tyranids! More specifically a swarm box, a "get started" box and a trygon.
I have been deciding on a paint scheme for a while now, and I've already gotten some suggestions and help from you guys already and I really appreciate it.
My idea initially was to do something I haven't seen before, something fluffy, something that would give me a challenge as a painter and it needs to look badass of course! The idea behind the paint scheme I want you to look at is a jungle camo themed, but also kindof like zebra themed where all the small dots confuse the enemy where they can't target single aliens from the swarm. I've got some plastic aquarium plants I'm gonna paint where i'll throw in some orange flowers and maybe some red/orange/yellow leaves. I don't like it when the bases are overdone though.
Here is the paint scheme that inspired me:
It's a bit too yellow for my taste, but I love what he did on the plates. So I'm going to steal that.
I'll do most of this with an airbrush. So the plan is to:
1. Prime the plates and mouth red and the rest of the model black.
2. Paint the plates trollslayer orange
2.1 Paint the shadows of the plates with Vallejo: fire red
2.2 Do some random small dots and lines on the plates with a mix of 1/2 trollslayer and 1/2 flash gitz yellow.
3. Mask the plates the places i want dots with small blue tack pieces (like they did on the picture above).
4. Paint the plates black.
5. Lightly highlight the edges of the plates secret weapon: old rust.
6. Paint the flesh 3/4 old rust 1/4 black.
7. Highlight the flesh 3/4 P3: khardic flesh 1/4 old rust
8. Paint the slits in the flesh, tongue and other details with P3: necrotite green
9. Wash the flesh with Citadel: Agrax earth shade
10. Paint the claws black and lightly highlight them citadel: caliban green
11. Edge highlight claws P3:necrotite green.
12. Wash the claws and the slits in the flesh Citadel: biel tan green.
13. Paint the eyes army painter: viking blue with a highlight of a 50%/50% mix of army painter: hydra turqoise and white.
14. Paint the teeth bone white and highlight white.
15. Mouth flesh 1/2 vallejo: royal purple and 1/2 squid pink.
16. highlight mouth flesh squid pink.
17. paint tongue vallejo: fire red
The base will be jungle themed.
Well! That's the plan!
So my questions are the following:
1. What do you think about the combination of black plates with bright orange/yellow dots, not too bright flesh, bright green in the slits of the flesh and black with green craws.
2. What do you think of the dotted plates as camouflage for a tyranid army (inspired by the leopard)? Do you think it holds up fluff wise?
3. Any tweeks or suggestions on color choices or techniques?
4. Any other suggestions?
Thank you for reading my post! Appreciate it!
