I must say I'm rather happy that this site encourages the regular update with lots of Photos LOL! I tend to document every project I do from start to Finish. And so far, this hasn't been much different. I will jump to my painted Minis of so far then to the current and what I'm doing. This is my first army so I'm trying to watch all the YouTube videos I can, and have read a TON of articles. My last attempt at 40K was 15 years ago and I never got much further than a Bike Squad and a tactical squad.

Without Further ado.

Scourage - I forgot to bring black with me so I wasn't able to do a wash on the neck and under jaw area.

Urien Rakarth - Lighting is horrible on this photo :( I plan to touch up the face as the eyes bled out to much.

I have a group of Kabalite warriors that I am almost done with painting. I dug through my photos and nothing was share worthy so I will have to spend some time tonight building the LED light box so I can quickly take photos

Many More to come

The scourge body is almost done. I will touch up the vials before I call it good. Tomorrow will finish the legs and the second wing so I can glue her all together

First Thank you for the words of encouragement!

So I take paint and parts with me to work every day and sit and do a little painting on my lunch hour. I should have more progress on the weekends

Today's piece was the legs. I noticed after I put everything away that I need to touch up the back foot. And still struggled with the dry brushing on the armor. it splattered to much and I will need to work on my technique a bit more I tried to cover up a bit of the over brushing with some black and glazing medium to darken it back. One thing I tend to do with this as I'm still working on my color schemes, is that I tend to lay down a lot of really thin layers so I can get the right color. So I end up painting over it a LOT lol. And learning to spot when it actually drys and just slowly move around the model changing the paint on my brush a lot. All that is left from here is second wing, arms/weapons, and the weapon bags.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Came home and did a little be of glue so I could see what it would look like and finished up the second wing. I think it still needs a little more red so it gets closer in tone. For weapons I'm going with the power lance and the Splinter pistol. I plan to make the Power Lance closer in tone to the hair. So it really makes the rest brighten up

Finished the Scourge. Still need to make a better light box...but getting there

Welcome to my workspace
This is a structure that I started last night. Took about 2 and a half hours to assemble what I have together so far. The pretense of this one is that there is a crater at the base of the building. The part where the what ever grenade went off obliterated what was there in a small circle. What surrounded that caves into the building. The rest of the wall sheared off. The upper floors outer wall shears but still hangs on with the re bar showing between the chunks still connected. There is a metal spiral ladder that is on the outside of the building that lost its structural integrity when its base was destroyed. This will be crumpled below the sheered portion of the wall that will be laying on the ground. I like to have a back story to what I'm building as it helps to build and bear the scene. So far I have stippled the outside of the building but have not primered it yet. Once the hard to reach parts of the structure have been painted I can assembly the sheared wall that is laying on the table.

I like the unique colour blends you've achieved on the Dark Eldar models. Overall the scourge reminds me of that red and silver baddie from old Power Rangers, do with that what you will haha

Terrain is coming along splendidly also!

I sense you seek some more critical feedback so i'll give my two cents.

I think you might need to work on shading, some of the edges lack definition to the detriment of some otherwise cool looking stuff. To wit i feel The Haemunculus needs the most attention. At least that's what i would say if i had to pick something to criticize.

Thank you! And yeah the Haemunculus certainly needs some work...I even debated removing the picture off the post but decided to leave it. And I think your spot on that I need to work on my shading tones. I will plug on with the next Scourge and try to work on changing the ones to create an illusion of shade I primed the rest of the scourges this weekend, just waiting on the Dark Lance bits to get here from across the pond >.< Might move to the Mandrakes next as their skirts seem the easiest way to practice the shading.

And I couldn't sleep last night and had to run laundry, so I made use of my time and threw some color on the terrain. I almost have more fun with the terrain then I do with the models. At this point I have a 1500 army that needs to get painted...and so far have the venom's and my first kalabilte squad mostly done . So many models and so little time >.<

Had outpatient surgery on Friday so I'm stuck in bed for a couple days. Making the best of my time. So here is what I got done yesterday....

Friday Evening:
Finished the touch up on my Kalabite warriors so they are all done.

Saturday:
Painted the torso, legs and heads on the scourge. Base coats on the wings. i changed the red to Hot Rod red in the hope of getting better contrasts.
Painted the detailing on two of my Venoms.
re painted the skin tone on my Urien Rakarth.
Painted three Mandrake.
re painted three Mandrakes that came pre painted. I painted the torso black and then started again.

Sorry again for the lighting...not the greatest in my bedroom. I really like how the mandrakes came out. I used three different colors of green and they really pop! I think the only thing I will change later will be to glaze a slightly lighter color on the top of the thigh so it makes the shadowing look defined. I'll do some proper photos of the whole army once they are done. All I have left now is to finish the Scourge, an Archon, another Kabalite squad, Raider, Chronos, and Hellions. And my 8th edition books/dice came in yesterday as well

My Archon is finished. I wish so badly that I had a better camera and photo light box. My pictures don't always come out how I want. The colors are a lot brighter then what they look like in the pics. So when painting him I messed up the chest after getting all the red lines in and had to redo it. I used the air brush at an angle to give a reddish tint to the parts from the top. Otherwise very happy with how he came out. Its really hard to tell but all of the decorative designs on his armor are done with a silver color. For the base I used a layer of 5 mil foam board, then some cork board, then another foam board, followed by the last bit of broken up cork board. I painted a yellow line crossed it for roadway design, and added some additional skulls to the base.

I finished my Scourges, and my first squad of kabalites. It will be nice to see the second squad with proper primer. I also have laid three different tones of red onto the Chronos. Almost ready to start painting that guy. I have seen so many of them that are amazing that I would rather take my time on him. But in between I'm working on my hellion squad. My attempt right now is to make it to 500 points total so I can start battling end of the month. After these gents on to the reavers.

Had a recovery day from over doing it. So I laid in bed and knocked out some hellion boards. And will do a little touch up later when I can sit at my actual work bench. But the make shift area was enough to make good progress and assembly. Now to figure out what I'm going to base them with. I had ideas of making it look like dust was being pushed up from the back so it looked like it was moving. Will have to mess around with some clay and see if I can find something that appeals to the eye.

*The image is a bit deceiving as the bright red edging was not captured in this photo, looks much better then what is shown*

A little more progress on the Hellions. Just need to wash the ones without the bases done. and then do some minor detailing after. Debating on if I should put white tipped highlights on their hair or not.

Hey nice work. I enjoy the base stems and how then blend into the color.

You've put a lot of time into these -- I would give the hair just a bit of definition with some quick highlights. Hard to see in the pic, but I think some coloration wouldn't hurt.

Keep going. I'm a (future) Drucari player myself.

Wicked work on the Hellions.

Not so keen on the dirty base stems myself, but it's an interesting idea.

Keep it up buddy.

I really appreciate the encouragement! And the phased down color on the stems was purely by accident. I loaded up only a very small amount of paint into my airbrush to put a brown base. It was barely feeding at an angle and when I tipped it flat it just blasted the base. So at that point it was a heck why not moment and did all the way around. I did this one on the 16th and forgot to post up a photo. Last night I also did some white highlights on the hellions hair, and then I did a wash on the shoulder pads that allowed the hair colors to pop even more. Planning to finish up the bases this evening then i will post up some more photos of the finished hellions tomorrow!

Primed, a so deep red almost black under coat for the top, Jet black for the bottom. Then a controlled spray of the jet black down the middle. Then a Ultra-Brilliant Red with a small amount of black lightly sprayed on the edges of the front body and the fins. The more red portion of fins in the back will be painted silver on the next step. So only a small amount of red spray on the fins will remain to tie into the color on the front.

Well my good friend that got me into this a couple months back is being offered a position at another office within the company half way across the country...so I'm trying to get these done as quick as possible. I only have three weeks to have these all done enough to play on our Sunday game day. So Hoping to post a LOT of photos in the next couple weeks

So the raider has already taken a bit of work to get rid of as many seams as possible. I can see to spots that had a light sanding with a 1500 grit but didn't get everything. Will hit it again with some 600 on those two visible spur flakes. May just have to take a few more photos and zoom in lol...it seems I find more of the clean up areas after I put the pictures up

Started some work on my last set of Kabalites. I will primer them tonight along with the weapons and the two pilots for the last two reavers to finish tomorrow. The thought is to paint and assemble the arms on at the end.

Also doing my first try with using the poster tacky for doing the primer. Tired of having to clean up the superglue afterwards.

Made my First Markers. Used extra parts left over from the Hellions, Scourge, and Kabalites. Will post some better pictures tomorrow after they have some paint on them
