I just figured out that Gargoyles might do everything better, which Hormagants are supposed to do.
They are much faster (B12), can still shoot and have a powerful defensive ability with the blinding venom, which is very good when you use them to bind enemy units.
The only advantages for Hormagants for me at the moment seem to be against Imperial Guard or coming out of a trygon tunnel.

Any thoughts on that?

The only reason you take Hormagants is for their 6" pile in and consolidate rule to try and lock more units into combat to stop them from shooting for a round.

The dark behind the eyes.

The only advantages Hormagants have over Gargoyles is:
- They get to reroll 1s to wound for all their attacks (whereas, if Gargoyles shoot and then charge, they'll only get rerolls on their guns).
- They get twice the normal distance for Pile In and Consolidate (could help close the movement gap once they get into combat with something).
- Hormagants are a point per model cheaper, so they've got that going for them.

I think the main point though is that Hormagants are troops, whereas Gargoyles are Fast Attack. So if you want to spam them instead, then you're either going to be taking Outrider Detachments (fewer CPs) or else bringing other troops to fill a Battalion or Brigade Detachment (not a huge issue for 'nids, but still). Of course, if you're looking to take a Brigade, you might want to take Gargoyles anyway to fill out the mandatory FA slots.

In essence, I'd say it comes down more to what slots you need to fill for your detachment.

Yeah, when i read the small novel that is the Death Guard unit options and think about resolving the attacks from a melee-oriented min size death guard squad, the thing that springs to mind is "Accessible!"

You're not. If you're worried about your opponent using 'fake' rules, you're having fun the wrong way. This hobby isn't about rules. It's about buying Citadel miniatures.

Please report to your nearest GW store for attitude readjustment. Take your wallet.
