Greetings folks. Just wanted to take a few minutes to parse out a list idea for gits and shiggles and also start up some general discussion about Blood Angels in the new codex and new edition.
Firstly, personally speaking, I'm currently building up a list using two detachments. No points sorted out yet, just kinda spit-balling based on what I have and what I plan on purchasing over the next several months
Brigade Detachment(?... the one with minimum 3 troops and 1 HQ, don't have my rulebook handy here at work)
3x HQ's: Captain w/ Jump Pack, Librarian Dreadnought, Sanguinary High Priest w/ Jump Pack
3x Troops: Tactical Squad (10 man) in a Rhino, Scout Squad (5 man), Primaris Marines troop squad (Or a second Tactical Squad, 10 man, also mounted in a Rhino)
3x Elite: Company Veterans (4 to 5 man squad) w/ Storm Shields and Jump Packs, Company Champion w/ Jump Pack, Sanguinary Novitiate (Apothecary) w/ a Jump Pack
2x Heavy Support: a Storm Raven, one Devastator Squad (likely 10 man strong) in a Drop Pod
Second attached Vanguard Detachment (1x HQ and 2x Elite minimum)
2x HQ's: Librarian w/ Jump Pack, Lemartes
4x Elites: Death Company w/ Jump Packs (5x man), Death Company w/ jump packs (5x man), Sanguinary Guard (5 man squad) & a Sanguinary Guard Ancient.
Once I total up points, I may include a 5 or 10 man assault squad as well and play it like a light demi-company with additional support in the form of Sanguinary Guard and Death Company.
Now with that out of the way, I have noticed that Blood Angels, more than some (I would hazard to say, most) of the other chapters, rely on intersecting and stacking aura effects from their
HQ and Ancient choices. Notably, the +1 strength buff from Sanguinary Priests, the obligatory re-roll 1 ability from a Captain (and Dante), and the two different buffing psychic powers available from the Librarians (Shield of Sanguinius, and Unleash rage). In addition, you have the Sanguinary Guard Ancient, who's banner makes you just straight up immune to morale and allows rerolling of 1's to wound. Then you factor in Astorath and his mass of doom. Then the death company specific buffs that Lemartes brings with him, it gets impressive. Gabriel Seth also has an impressive ability similar to Lemartes for all Flesh Tearers nearby for those playing Flesh Tearers.
It seems to me that Blood Angels are one of the better assault oriented marine armies if you build your list to take advantage of some of these synergies and cross buffing. I think this trend is true, the using buffs from characters seems to be the best method for making sure your assault is as deadly as it can be.
So what say you, any thoughts on this? Just curious to see what people think, especially fellow Blood Angels players.
Take it easy.
