Anyone have experience making their own? If so, how do they compare to store bought brush cleaners?

My bottle of Vallejo brush cleaner is pretty much just isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) in a bottle which is available from many pharmacies over the counter.

Brush soap can be found at any artist's supply store.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

A block of handsoap works fine as a hairy brush cleaner. Buy the blocks not the liquid, liquid handsoap doesn't work as well. I just get a cheap unscented brand, specifically "Imperial Leather" brand. Some do work better than others, once I tried an aldi branded block of soap and it worked but not as well as the imperial leather brand, go figure.

That said actual brush soap isn't really all that expensive or hard to get if you have an art store nearby (which unfortunately I don't ).

Really? I don't own any of their brush cleaner but do own a lot of their other products and most their other products are glycol ether based (at least I think that's what that funny smell is, it doesn't smell like regular iso alcohol), I assumed their brush cleaner would be the same. Isopropyl is a decent cleaner but I figured it'd be on the harsh side for natural hair brushes without other additives.

The store bought cleaners/restorers seem reasonably priced, I'll probably just get that seeing as I'm going to be dropping money on good brushes anyway
