A suggestion. Mods have a lot of power. This power can easily be abused. I've seen it in BC from draconian mods.
Peer review and oversight for mods would be amazing. I'm sure people that are helpess against a god like figure on the forums making arbitrary demands would like help. This is a community and peer oversight would foster that.

Not sure it's needed here on Dakka though?
I've been involved in a few heated exchanges, but the Mods rarely if ever come down one-sided.

I haven't really seen any mod abuse. Apart from a small joke here and there, which was nothing serious. If it did happen, they'd probably get a bum spanking the higher up.

Very little abuse of power witnessed. However draconian unchecked bias and demands from mods can be terrifying. You wonder if you will get banned for defending yourself. Or your view point.
Objectivity would dictate white knighting aside. Even Drs have peer review. Judges. Councilman. Policeman etc. It's a good idea. Mods can ban you unless you follow every demand they make.
abuse of power or even misunderstanding could still happen. It stands to reason that mod oversight should be a thing.
You might not always be on the right side of personal bias.
Way to much power for a single individual to have. Period. Evem if the mods are good most of the time.

The mods on this site have always seemed fair to me.
The few people on Dakka who seem to have a problem with them just come across as being "younger" than the average hobbyist, shall we say.

Not a single time have I witnessed anything happening that was out of line. You have to be a special kind of nugget to instantly get banned here.
And this is a forum, not a country that needs an entire juridical system.
Just what... why would I even be biased, I hardly know the mods.

Just for the avoidance of doubt, this thread is almost certainly a direct result of the OP having a thread locked and multiple posts edited for rule 1 violation.
I saw those posts before they were edited and they implied threats and included declarations which undoubtedly warranted Mod intervention.
That the OP is still posting is an example of spectacular Mod leniency IMO.
For further clarification, I recommend reading the OPs posts in Introductions where they refer to other Mod teams as "dehumanizing fascists" and self identify as "prone to violent outbursts and face punching."
In Introductions. Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh, and this thread has nothing to do with wargaming, so why it's in discussions I don't know, so reported.

Regardless of how rare it is. It should still be a feature. Mods have to much power with very little oversight. It's not right or fair.
Objectively regardless of your personal feelings this will happen. I've seen it happen on other forms. I was bamned from BC for thanking the community for supporting 40k for all these years a positive message during the N Korean missle crisis that's still happening.
The post wasn't intended to be political. But a positive message. I was then banned after I protested draconian mods removing the post.
I would have liked Mod oversight in that situation. Mods are people and could be clouded by emotional reaction.
Mod oversight should be implemented regardless of how little abuse happens. Because it will happen.

As I said the mods here are reasonably good, but I have come across a couple of discussions where certain mods push the rules of politeness and then lock at rather opportune times for a certain side of an argument and/or appear to moderate somewhat selectively, lol. But that's mostly in the off topic forum where I guess it's more to be expected.

I just don't see why it can't be recognized as a good thing. Judges have oversight. Mods act as judges jury and banhammers.
Just to understand your perspective why do you think unlimited power in mods hands to ban you is okay?

I suggested member oversight. From the comunity. But that's good to know. However I can't quick reply because of a mod not stepping in and selectively targeted my posts after repeated harrasment from purifire. I asked for mod help. Yet I can't post a quick reply. I feel oversight is relevant. Especially when your defending yourself from repeated harrasment and a mod only chooses to help you after allowing the harrasment to continue the selectively deleted your posts Framing you out to be a bad person for not wishing to be the target of abuse.
Not every situation is black and white. So yeah. I think member oversight should be a thing. Mods could easily be friends destroying all objectivity. In this case I felt the mod was allowing harrasment to happen. When I told the mod I did not want to be the target of abuse and that No means No my ability to quick reply was removed. As a person with autism. I constantly face harrasment and abuse.
Again to be clear I am not bashing mods. I am respectfully asking for member review and oversight of mods.
I am also asking white knights to stand down. And think objectively.
Ask yourself this.
Why is it okay for mods to have unlimited power to ban you.

This website is sustainable only by the donations of the community.
Community elections of mods should be a thing. It's not a bad request.
And you shouldn't be upset at the idea. It won't hurt anyone. It will however insure community comes first.

They don't.
All moderation is logged and reviewed where appropriate. Permanent suspensions of accounts are very, very rare, and need to be backed up by a reasonable explanation, otherwise they would just be reversed by another mod or the site's owner.
What mods do have is the right to enforce the rules of the site. You don't get to dictate how those rules are applied, any more than you can walk into your neighbour's house and declare that you and the guy from across the road should have a say in what happens there.
Moving on.
