I'm looking at getting into Nids, but just for chutes and ladders I was wondering if anybody knew of off-brand bits or models I could bash for extra flair?

Yeah, I read that one but must have missed the Nids. Saw a lot of soldiers, but no niddy stuff. My bad.

Nid bits are very hard to come by.

They have a very particular aesthetic. Its not well replicated by any 3rd party. But nids kit bash very well with other nid bits. I modify and build all kinds of stuff by kit bashing multiple kits together.
