So, can a big mek ride along in the battlewagon and repair his ride, or must he run behind it (pick up the fallen pieces of wagon, yell something about gitz and throw the pieces in the general direction of the vehicle) to be able to repair it?

Dakka is the ork word for shooting, but the ork concept of shooting is saturation fire. Just as there is no such thing as a "miss" in a target-rich environment, there is no such thing as a "dodge" in a bullet rich one

I do not own the Xenox Index, could you please quote the rule your talking about?

If its his "Aura" It wont work while in the transport, if it says something like "Must be within Xinches to repair Y" Then it sounds like he has to be out of the Trukk.

From 'Transports' (pg. 183 of the 8th edition rulebook):

Embarked units cannot normally do anything or be affected in any way whilst they are embarked. Unless specifically stated, abilities that affect other units within a certain range have no effect whilst the unit that has the ability is embarked.

So unless the ability, (such as the Big Mek's 'Big Mekaniak' ability) specifically says it may be used while embarked it can not be used.

at the end of the moving phase, the big mek can repair a single vehicle within 3".
But if he is in the vehicle, than the vehicle for sure is inside his 3" i suppose...

"Q. Can a model with the ability to repair vehicles – such as a Techmarine or an Ork Mek – use that ability to repair a transport they are currently embarked within?
A. No."

Makes sense, the damage on that vehicle should be external, like some holes caused by enemy's firepower, but not that big to actually open a new window If the big mek is embarked he can't fix the issue because he wouldn't even see the damaged part of the vehicle.

your mind

Seems contrary to past practice. Putting meks in morkanauts and battlewagon's was common last edition...
