So far i have:
2 overlords
1 Triarch Stalker
20 Warriors ( and whatever those little critters are that come with warriors)
1 praetorian/lychguard box but I'll most likely make them lychguards.


A friend suggested i pick up a cryptek, a ghost ark, and some immortals. I'm looking to be able to play 500 points as I'm still learning the rules of how to play.

You already have some decent stuff to start at 500 points and learn how to apply the rules in a bunch of situations. Personally I would go for something like:

Overlord - Warscythe - 112pts
15 Warriors - 180pts
3 Scarabs - 39pts
Triarch Stalker - Heat Ray - 171pts

That puts you at 502 points, which I can't see most people complaining at if your just learning how to play. For future purchases I would definitely recommend Immortals, theyre a solid unit to form the army around. 20 Warriors combined with a Cryptek and Ghost Ark is a very tough nut to crack, but expensive in both points and money.

You can drop the warscythe for a hyperphase sword. That will put you at about 492, I think.
Hyperphase swords aren't that bad this time. No S modifier, but it does have a heavy save modifier (en par with plasma) and S5 is still pretty good against infantry.

Cryptek at least one probably two they are a big buff unit for crons.
