I might not be the only one, but for all the love I have for tau and their aesthetic, there always seems to be something off-putting about the models. They always seem so flimsy and lackluster, which is somewhat disappointing, when your a big fan of SIFI mecha and want to see a bad-ass robot wreck the place up. Therefore for my own benefit, i have decided to modify the hell out of them, to see what I can do, making a force that is both pleasing to look as well as functional on the battle field. This blog will follow the progress of this, logging all the design choices and variations that come about, and maybe receive some feedback (if anyone is bored enough to read this). With this in mind, I am a complete beginner to this, with only about 30 hours of working time thus far.
I guess a good place to begin will the targets and basic aesthetic choices, that I have already made, as this will form a root from which my mechanical tree will grow as for actual conversions and modifications, they will come soon enough once the plan is made. let's begin! The force I foresee is a battle hardened tau force that has pushed the limits of the capability, whether that is resources they hold or tactics they deploy, this force has fought for a long time and they carry the scars, with Ork like battlefield repairs, and makeshift defense systems, you name it, they have seen it. of course, they need to look tau with that high tech look to them but, bringing in a hard hit of reality can't do much harm. the Colour scheme is following a randomized mix of light blue and orange, with purple cloth features. I found during paint testing that this looked most realistic for a company who main focus is attacking/raiding. see example 1. of course, this was only a test and much further modifications are to come.
main focuses of this project.
- realistic, sensible machines with functional systems and weaponry
- interesting Infantry
- A badass force.
that will do for my introduction, as im sure that the more interesting stuff is to come, or I hope so at least, check 1.
