Hello friends,

I am playing an IG army and planning on embarking a Tech Priest Engineer and Harker onto a storm lord. The engineer can heal vehicle wounds while Harker gives rerolls to hits of 1 for Catachan units. Both of these characters work within 6" of their target, in fact, the engineer only works within 3". Are they able to use these effects while embarked on the storm lord? More importantly, would they be able to affect the storm lord?

Thanks!

Short answer, no. Not while embarked anyway.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

For reference, see 'Transports', fifth paragraph on page 183 of the main rulebook.

Models embarked are, for all intents and purposes, not on the board and cannot affect anything in any manner unless a special rule EXPLICITLY allows it (for example a Big Mek's KFF).

And just for confirmation of the general transport rules, there's the 'stepping into a new edition' FAQ.

"Q. If a unit has an aura ability, and it is embarked within a transport, does that aura ability still apply, whether the transport has the Open-topped ability or otherwise?
A. No.

Q. Can a model with the ability to repair vehicles – such as a Techmarine or an Ork Mek – use that ability to repair a transport they are currently embarked within?
No."
