Hello everyone. This is my first post. I'm really looking forward to making more in the future, learning, reading and basically enjoying the hobby.

I am, however, totally lost here.

I recently purchased a Space Wolves army with the following units:

Logan Grimnar on Stormrider
20 wolf guard
5 wolf guard terminators
15 bloodclaws
3 thunderwolf calvary
5 fenrisian wolves
6 longfangs
1 predator tank
Unbuilt unit - 10 Claws, guard or hunters

My questions are as follows:

1) is this a legal army that I can field right now? If not, what requirements are there to field? Another HQ?
2) suggestions for what I should make the unbuilt unit into?

I'd love any answers, tips, or whatever can be provided. Thanks so much.

You can definitely field an army with that.
Is Logan glued down on the Chariot? He's better off it right now.

Ok cool. Just making sure that I wont be breaking any rules/army is legal.

Sadly, Logan is glued to his chariot, but I got such a great deal on the army that I'm ok with it. Lol

Are you looking for competitive or casual?

Just casual with some friends of mine, but I'd also like to build an army that is legal and could be competitive if I ever want to give some tournaments a go.
But mainly my focus is on casual so I'm not too worried if it takes time to tweak / rework things

How are you decking out the twenty Wolf Guard?

I don't break the rules but I'll bend them as far as they'll go.

Just a fun list:

Battalion
Logan
10 Blood Claws
10 Blood Claws
5 Grey Hunters
3 TWC
Long Fang Squad
Predator
Add Wolfguard to the squads as needed and drop in a full wolf guard squad

You might need some vehicles at some point, but walkers will do for now.

Thanks for the tips. That could definitely be fun.

Not sure how the wolf guard are decked out yet. They're already built and I haven't really given everything the once over.
I'd like to stick with WYSIWYG, but I'm going to play a lot of casual so I'm open to any suggested loadouts.

Ok. So here we go.
I'm not yet sure which minis are the bloodclaws or wolf guard. They look exactly the same and I'm still reading/learning.
But I do have 35 minis that are one or the other. Lol.

Here's their loadout as built.

Power axe and shield x 1
Power axe x 2
Bolt pistol w chainaxe x 17
Dual wolf claws x 2
Chainaxe and plasma pistol x 1
Power fist and plasma pistol x 1
Boltgun and frost sword x 1
Chain axe and storm bolter x 2
Storm bolter and wolfclaw
Boltgun and power axe
Boltgun x 2
Bolt pistol and frost sword
Bolt gun and bolt pistol
Flamer

So yeah, a lot going on here. I'll try to figure out which unit is which.

I'm seeing a lack of plasma pistols and from what I can see, they look pretty strong in 8th edition. Should I build my 10 unbuilt minis with as much plasma as possible to make up for all the bolting going on?

From what I can see, the wolf guard can take plasma pistols instead of bolt pistols for free. Is there any reason not to do this?
Looks to me like plasma pistols are way more powerful than bolt pistols.

The can get plasma pistols for 7 points, not for free.

Ah, I see. I looked in the space wolves index and couldn't find the point values for taking a plasma over a bolt pistol.
Think it's worth the extra 7 points?
From what I can see, my unbuilt minis come with 6 plasma pistols. So, I'm thinking of equipping them to offer some variation over all the bolt pistols I already have.

Points levels are in the appendix in the back. Plasma Pistols certainly got better this edition.

Ok, so I need more help. lol.

I decided to go with 10 grey hunters for my unassembled squad.

I'm thinking the following

Grey hunter packleader with power sword and boltgun
1 guy with plasma pistol and chainsword
2 guys with plasma rifles
and as many other boltguns as I can model. lol

Now here is where I get confused. The index says that any grey hunter can take a chainsword. So, if I want my guys with two handed weapons (boltguns and plasma rifles) to have chainswords as well, is this allowed?
They obviously won't be modelled holding a two handed weapon and a chainsword so I'm just making sure that this is allowed / the guys with boltguns are also considered as having chain swords.

Yep, just use a chainsword in scabbard or strapped to their back.

And to be honest, just pointing out to your opponent that all of your GH havd chainswords if you are playing casual, without worrying about adding them to all the models

Ok, so let me see if I can get a general points outline here.

Logan on Stormrider - 230
I may swap or add Arjac as he's crazy powerful for 140 points

6 Long Fangs - 90
20 wolf guard - 320
15 blood claws - 195
10 grey hunters - 164 (added power sword and plasma pistol plus 2 plasma guns)
5 terminators - 155
3 thunderwolf cavalry - 135
5 fenrisian wolves - 45
predator tank w autocannon - 100 points?

So, without Arjac I'm at 1434 points not including loadouts. Here's where I get confused. lol

I bought these minis already built. So now do I just look at their modelled wargear (which I'll keep WYSIWYG) and figure out the additional points?
Also, any suggestions on adding/removing anything from the above list?

That's the easiest way to do it. Let us know what you have for loadouts.
