Would a 6x4 realm of battle board be ok on a 5x3 table or would it not be stable or hold together?

Do I have something in my teeth?

I wouldn't, one slip and your models will meet the floor.

The clips are only there to stop the boards sliding; they are not strong enogh to actually hold the board together if you hang it over an edge.

I'd recommend getting a bit of plywood 6' x 4', putting that on your table and putting the RoB board on that.

I regularly put my realm of battle board on a 5'x3' table and have never had any problems. If you get it centralised it only over hangs by 6" on each side so, unless you lean on the edge, it's quite secure.

“Because we couldn’t be trusted. The Emperor needed a weapon that would never obey its own desires before those of the Imperium. He needed a weapon that would never bite the hand that feeds. The World Eaters were not that weapon. We’ve all drawn blades purely for the sake of shedding blood, and we’ve all felt the exultation of winning a war that never even needed to happen. We are not the tame, reliable pets that the Emperor wanted. The Wolves obey, when we would not. The Wolves can be trusted, when we never could. They have a discipline we lack, because their passions are not aflame with the Butcher’s Nails buzzing in the back of their skulls.
The Wolves will always come to heel when called. In that regard, it is a mystery why they name themselves wolves. They are tame, collared by the Emperor, obeying his every whim. But a wolf doesn’t behave that way. Only a dog does.
That is why we are the Eaters of Worlds, and the War Hounds no longer."

Get some plywood for it

It will work with the clips. Just be careful not to nudge the board when you lean over it!

Seems a bit of a risk when you could just run down to home depot and buy a few boards of 1x6 to lay underneath it.

When I move back to the states I'm thinking about just building my own dining table at 6x4, I wish it was a more common size.

It is totally fine on a 5x3. That has only a quarter of the tiles as an overhang and the tiles clip together really well. Done it loads of times, no issues, not even any near misses.

This and the small pack size are the only good reasons to get an RoB. It is a great travelling table or stowable table for those that don't have room to keep larger boards around.

This is spot on.

It's not perfect , but it will work in your scenario just fine and it packs away very well.
