Jealous that Horus is Warmaster

So, this is just a curious thought I had. I play Thousand Sons in 30k, and I wanted to try Thousand Sons in 8th edition 40k as well. Now, what are peoples thoughts on using the Horus Heresy models for 40k Thousand Sons? I was thinking veterans/tacticals (with some Thousand Sons bits) as Rubric Marines, and the 30k Sekhmet as Scarab Occult terminators.

Of course the named characters (Magnus och Ahriman) would need the new models, as they have changed too much to still use their "non-Chaos" model, but the regular units shouldn't be an issue, right?

When playing a friendly game, it doesn't really matter, but how would people see this in a tournament for example? The colours are no problem, as there is a Coven for the Thousand Sons in 40k that use the same crimson and gold colours as they did before the Heresy; the Crimson Sons.

You could also imply that these marines kept their armour after the Rubric of Ahriman. I always did find it strange that the marines that turned to dust somehow changed their armour when the Rubric happened. How does a pile of magic dust change armour?

Anyway, just a thought. What do you think?

Alpharius? Never heard of him.

I wouldn't see you having a problem with it at all. Even with Ahriman as long as you didn't say he was on a disk.

I use my 30k World Eaters as 40k World Eaters, even my 30k Kharn. I use the imperial armour rules for my contemptor, leviathan and vindicator laser destroyer.

“Because we couldn’t be trusted. The Emperor needed a weapon that would never obey its own desires before those of the Imperium. He needed a weapon that would never bite the hand that feeds. The World Eaters were not that weapon. We’ve all drawn blades purely for the sake of shedding blood, and we’ve all felt the exultation of winning a war that never even needed to happen. We are not the tame, reliable pets that the Emperor wanted. The Wolves obey, when we would not. The Wolves can be trusted, when we never could. They have a discipline we lack, because their passions are not aflame with the Butcher’s Nails buzzing in the back of their skulls.
The Wolves will always come to heel when called. In that regard, it is a mystery why they name themselves wolves. They are tame, collared by the Emperor, obeying his every whim. But a wolf doesn’t behave that way. Only a dog does.
That is why we are the Eaters of Worlds, and the War Hounds no longer."

Yeah, it should work out. Thanks for your input fellas.

Might need to do some magnet work on my vets though. Plasma guns don't really translate well into Soulreaper Cannons, and Sekhmet (unfortunately) can't take Chain Fists.

Alpharius? Never heard of him.

There IS a sect of the 40k Thousand Sons that still use the red color scheme. The Crimson Sons sect of the Thousand Sons, per the color plates at the end of the fluff portion of Wrath of Magnus, and I suspect there may be other sects as well.

No doubt I'll be corrected if I'm wrong, but based on the HH books and the recent Ahriman series, only those Thousand Sons controlled by Ahriman are blue, while those controlled by Magnus are in their original red. You then also have separate warbands / groups of sorcerers with their own Rubrics with their own paint schemes (like all white or in one case a Terminator sorcerer in orange - think he was the master of destruction or something).

Thousand Sons: 3850pts / Space Marines Deathwatch 5000pts / Dark Eldar Webway Corsairs 2000pts / Scrapheap Challenged Orks 1500pts / Black Death 1500pts

Saga: (Vikings, Normans, Anglo Danes, Irish, Scots, Late Romans, Huns and Anglo Saxons), Lion Rampant, Ronin: (Bushi x2, Sohei), Frostgrave: (Enchanter, Thaumaturge, Illusionist)

As long as it is clear what is what, you can use any model to be any other model in the game. "Clear" is subjective, of course, but this should be one of the least complicated count as situations i can think of.

Also, fluff doesn't mean anything on the table, as long as you follow the rules and have easily identifiable models/equipment. You can paint your rubric marines dark green, or use the 2nd ed starter box marines as rubrics. As long as everything is clear for both sides, you are fine.
