185 pts nets you 2+ BS, TL lascannon and a ML. Astra aim is pretty easy to get off and lets you ignore LOS and terrain.

Pretty good cleanup crew unit? One of the better anti-tank units for the GK that's not called a stormraven?

Probably work

I think I'm going to keep using my autocannons. Might be a good use for Astral Aim, but I was also considering using it on a deep struck purgation squad.

Autocannons are no longer options for GK dreads :/

Otherwise I would totally go rifleman loadout.

One arm
Assault cannon
MM
Heavy plasma cannon
Twin Lascannon

Other arm
CCW - bolter or flamer
Missile Launcher

...............

OR can I just use the index for this...

Last I heard, you can still use the index for options that aren't listed in the codex. I think dreadnought options were specifically named as an example of this.

Looks like you are right. That is a much better loadout. 8 str 7 shots can do some work.

There are a few options that are missing in the codex that appear in the index: why is that? Does that mean I can’t use these models in my army anymore?
While the indexes are designed to cover a long history of miniatures, the codexes are designed to give you rules for the current Warhammer 40,000 range. There are a few options in the indexes for some Characters and vehicles that are no longer represented in the Citadel range – certain Dreadnought weapons that don’t come in the box, or some characters on bikes, for example.
Don’t worry though, you can still use all of these in your games if you have these older models. In these instances, use the datasheet from the index, and the most recent points published for that model and its weapons (currently, also in the index).

They still gain all the army wide-bonuses for things like Chapter Tactics and can use Space Marines Stratagems and the like, so such venerable heroes still fit right in with the rest of your army.

Downside is that the index GK dread only has access to smite, so you would need another source for Astral Aim.

From a competative point of view I think GK dreads aren't really attractive. Possible uses are IMO:

- Backfield unit: GK Venerable Dread with TL lascannon, missile launcher and using Astral Aim
- Assault unit: GK Doomglaive Dread (Imperial Armour books) with Gate of Infinity (or using a CP to deepstrike, or using a Storm Raven).

Nah you just use the updated points and rules. For wargear options you gotta refer to the index. So you should be fine.
