Hi guys! I'm a new user here, I mostly came here because I keep getting utterly annihilated by a friend who plays eldar, and it's starting to make me really angry, as in Me 1, Friend 5 levels of losing, and bad too. I really enjoy WH40K after really getting into it in 8th edition, and I love my tyranids with a passion, I have a custom paint color for them, I'll spend tons of money to get the models I need, etc. I've only been playing for about a month, so I don't really have enough experience to make a good army, but then again, there's another reason I came here! I'm looking forward to being a part of the community, and being able to help or take help when needed!

Welcome to the site!
I think I finally passed the threshold of being a new player? So I guess I'm more of an acolyte now of this weird cult?
Either way welcome!
You say you play Tyranids? What kinds of Tyranids do you play?
I have a fair amount of tyranids and mine are SUPER shooty, like 24 Termagants all with Devourers. That is a LOT of shots in one round heh.
But I digress. I'm an odd duck, no melee except on one Carnifex.

I play shooty nids for the most part as well, using an average of 60 termagants with fleshborers, usually a dakkafex/exocrine/hive guard, a walkrant with tyrant guard, a tervigon, and than bio morphs.

Nice!
I'm actually taking a break from Tyranids to focus on Death Guard at the moment, but when I have at least 3000 points worth of Death Guard I'm probably going back to Nids
(Tyranids were more a hobby than a serious thing, considering the only synapse creature I have is my Flyrant)
Exocrine and Warriors are on the to buy list.

You say you lose to your friend? What style of games are you playing? Like traditional matches or just skirmishes to see who lives longest?

Traditional matches for the most part, we used to play who could live the longest, but then he got his hemlock wraithfighter, which has never been killed by anyone he plays against. Closest I've personally got to killing it was bringing it down to like 3 wounds after some sucky perils of the warp rolls for him.

Ouch I feel you man, don't feel down though! I had the same problem with a Local player (Whose name shall be redacted) whom played Eldar, except he had a Wraith Knight, and I don't know if your friend has one of those but.. Well pardon my french but f**k Wraith Knights.. They were so annoying to deal with, especially since at the time I had nothing that could deal with them except maybe a riptide and maybe some Rail gun Tau.

Now that I think about it? Traditional games with Tyranids would be a bit tough if you are going against someone who knows how to deal with them (Meaning take out the synapse creature and lead you away from high priority objectives.)

Have you considered maybe switching it up a bit and trying the tried and true method of Gene Stealer spam across the board?

Have you ever played against wraithguard? They can nearly kill a whole squad of termagants in a turn. I repeat: 1 turn. Also I never knew about genestealer spam, do you just take as many genestealers as you can and a couple of broodlords?

Sadly not, I have only seen a box of Wraith Guard in the store I go to, they seem quaint to be honest, I don't know their stats so who knows that could be pretty intense.

And more or less.
Genestealers don't have instinct rules so they can exist on their own, and if you have a group of 10 or more in a squad they all get 4 attacks each on a 3+ weapon skill.
They have eight inch movement speed and can also advance AND charge in the same turn with no negatives.

Broodlords allow Genestealers to reroll to hits of 1 and well at 12 points per Genestealer they may be a bit pricey but I have seen some pretty intense cancer using them before (Also they have a 5+ armour save and 5+ invuln)

Wraith guard have d scythes, which are S10 auto-hit AP-4 attacks, and they are assault d3. So that's 15 attacks, that auto hit, are S10, and only invul/catalyst against them. Also, for 1000 points, I don't quite know if I can field a battalion detachment of them.

Ouch, that sucks a big fat one heh.
Yeah, I say that is a pretty rough go at 'er, see I personally hate Eldar for that exact reason, they have some units that are a bit broken to be honest.
Also I just checked out the D Scythes (Thank you battlescribe) the range seems to be a bit.. Short but then again it is a flame thrower thing.
I would say play the range game with them, but well, tyranids.

I wish you luck.
Wraith Guard seem basically like Anti-tyranids with the close range-y-ness.
The ability to clear things in masses with the flame thrower defeats swarms, so maybe go with the tried and true method of a Nid-zilla army?

Welcome to Dakka! Definitely look at the lists and tactics threads to get some ideas. Although I know Eldar are usually high in power, things have relatively evened out and Tyranids can take them on.

Thank you! Think about this for a second, they can do fifteen wounds, they auto hit, and they wound a carnifex on 3+, it has eight wounds and no invul save, So basically, a nid-zilla army gets rekt by wraith guard and fire dragons, meaning that troops are a necessary protective measure for MCs. I guess I could give my termagants deathspitters though...

Hi,

Welcome to Dakka

Welcome to Dakka!
Be sure to check out the army lists, it will give you an idea of what people are taking that play your army and what your enemies may have as well.
I don't condone tailoring, but it can't hurt to see what your local meta is either.

See if he wouldn't mind swapping lists, it can be a really fun exercise in tactics. If ever my girlfriend or myself destroy each other that's what we do. Although it stings to be trashed by your own army!
