Hey guys

I've begun a space marine army using the Corax White spray as basecoat. It's the perfect colour and drybrushing terminator stone and then praxati white over it gives the model the colour and feel that I want. However I just found that GW have no normal paint for brushpainting that's the same as the Corax White spraypaint. ( https://www.games-workshop.com/en-AU/searchResults?qty=com.gamesworkshop.endeca.EndecaUserContext%405d4818f6&sorting=&view=&Ntt=corax+white )

My problem is when I need to reapply some white over the Corax White (e.g. when I accidently paint some Abaddon Black onto the Corax White armour), I can't find anything that matches!

So my query is this: Does anybody know of a paint that is the equivalent GW's Corax White spraypaint? Or failing that, does anybody know of a paint combination that gets close to Corax White?

(And yes, I know Corax White is actually more of a weird grey and not actually white white )

Sincerely

Alonzo

Ulthuan Grey, Celestra Grey, Ceramite White or one of the equivalents from Vallejo Game colour? That's my suggestion. Along with many many thin coats.

My upcoming company INSTAR can match GW paint no problem to within 99% of the original colour, Corax White is one that we don't have in the collection and one we would like to add as it's not, as you said, available in brush format.

As the store isn't up and running yet and we have to match the Corax White colour, I can only say to watch this space (I know that's not much help) but we plan to launch sometime in the next few months so if you're still painting your marines, we can certainly help.

Failing that, we are very competitive on pricing so we might be worth watching for any other colours you might have an interest in.

Just search for INSTAR on the forums to see what all the fuss is about

Thanks, but I'm kinda raring to paint them now, so I'll try and mix and match and see if I can't get close. If anybody knows a good combination please let me know.->

Haha, I know what you mean

I'm raring to get the product out there but it's taking longer than I'd hoped.

I would just use the tiniest amounts of black and yellow in white to get the desired effect, failing that, you could use a light grey as a base and work backwards by adding white.

Usually off the shelf varieties will never be a match or even a close match (Unless that company is INSTAR of course ) so mixing is your only alternative.

Good luck!

Outer Space, Apparently

Ulthuan Grey is your best bet. While not actually white, it provides a white colour that will apply more smoothly, and will allow you to highlight with a flat white like White Scar.

The flattest white in the Citadel range is Ceramite White, but that is best suited for painting bright components over a black basecoat rather than using as a main colour.

I spray all my models in the Corax White and I use Ulthuan Grey to tidy up any areas later on. The colours are almost identical, the only times they aren't is when the undercoat is dusted on rather than given a strong coat. In those instances mixing Administratum Grey into the Ulthuan can get you a colour match too.

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

Has anyone tried decanting GW sprays? What do you thin it with once you've got it in a pot?

I've decanted Tamiya sprays before and you need to thin them with a lacquer thinner.

Well yeah, of course it's a thing?

It is something that has been done with scale modeling for quite some time. I have some Osprey and Tamiya books that walk you through the process to decant enamel sprays so that you can use them for touch-up work.
