Question: I have a thousand sons detachment, but I want to use my Lord of Change and Flaming Chariot models cause they are painted really nice. Right now I have a list where I take the two deamon units as the -1CP single unit "formation", so -2CP. This is OK because those -1 CP detachments are separate from the Battalion detachment that is my Thousand Sons (where I want to use rubics as troops) I think I am ok, but want to be sure so there are no issues

That's absolutely fine.

To save on CP you could summon them in,

A better option is to get some brimstones horrors as a cheap troop choice.
