Is it necessary to apply an undercoat to precolored figures?

Colored plastic is really intended for people who don't want to paint a miniature - or want to assemble miniatures first and play the game before painting them.

When it comes to painting the miniatures - yes, they all need a proper coat of primer before painting. That's not saying you can't paint directly on the plastic, but that never yields a very good result. If you're starting out painting, definitely start the right way.

I would say so, just because you don't want the colour of the original paint job showing up under your paint. It'd make it a lot easier to change colours.
