Basilisk: Heavy D6. Roll two dice for the number of attacks when firing this weapon and discard the lowest result.
Catachan Doctrine: Each time a VEHICLE with this doctrine fires a ranged weapon that makes a random number of attacks (e.g. Heavy D6, Heavy 2D6 etc.) you can re-roll one of the dice used to determine the number of attacks made.
When can I re-roll to determine the number of shots, before discarding or after discarding?

it happens at the same time. It's your turn - you chose the order. One states any dice and the other says the lowest. So if you reroll the lowest first you could always reroll the other dice with the army trait.

If we fail to anticipate the unforeseen or expect the unexpected in a universe of infinite possibilities, we may find ourselves at the mercy of anyone or anything that cannot be programmed, categorized or easily referenced.

The basilisk discards, not re-rolls. Was thinking can I re-roll a 1 first before discarding it. Sequencing rule does seem to solve this. Brainfart on my part.

Lower of the two dice is discarded, not rerolled.

You should re-roll the lower dice and see if you get anything higher than the initial dice for optimal results I think.

I see discard - I think the sequence is still up to you in any case.

Before discarding. You're re-rolling one of the dice used to determine the number of attacks, and it just so happens at the most advantageous time to do so.
