I've been away from 40K for... 6 years? And not been on here much in the meantime (which may be why I say "bah piffle" to the name Astra Militarum)

What with 8th edition's massive changes, and the brand new Guard codex, this seems to be an excellent time to return. I've devoured a huge amount of list building tactica, and I'm starting at 500pts for now - myself and my future opponent have plans to play using *gasp* 6mm figures as outlined at https://sites.google.com/site/pocketw40k/.

Just FYI, I love Rough Riders. And from the look of 8th, they're amazingly worth it just now!

Tactically, the RR's can outflank to winkle out enemy tanks, the big tank hammers things, and the conscripts bubble wrap and die as required, or launch a crazy str4 charge with the priest's assistance.
