Some Faction Tactical objective cards aren't very good. The Ork ones were terrible in 7th, and the Death Guard ones in 8th arent much better. 7 Disgustingly Relilient rolls? Kill a unit with poison only? So I used to just play with the standard Tactical Objectives deck instead of the faction specific ones. On a recent read through of my DG codex it says if your warlord is from a DG detachment, the Objective cards are replaced. I'm pretty sure in 7th it was optional. I also play Space Marines and I don't even have their data cards... Are the Standard Tac Cards for non codex armies only now? Have I been playing this wrong?

Only 6 of them get replaced (Capture and Control) and yes, it is mandatory. They are detailed in the codexes so if you play SM you have the rules for those objectives.

It's standard to swap them out but if you agree with your opponent you can use the regular ones, shouldn't be an issue.

I use the standard deck and refer to the book if I draw 11-16.

For me, the joy is in putting some good-looking models on the board and playing out a fantasy battle - not arguing over the poorly-made rules of some 3rd party who neither has any power over my play nor will be visiting me (and my opponent) to ensure we are "playing by the rules"
