My local store is trying a smaller format so games can finish on time. I'm not sure which list to go with:

List 1:

Ghaz is expensive but helps deal with problems like crisis suits with flamers deep striking to cook my boyz. not really sure what threats people will bring at 1200 though. it's tempting to try and bring gorkanaut but it will draw all the anti tank fire. if I have no big targets my opponent will have wasted points on lascannons, etc.

The first list doesn't have any anti-tank at all. Codex armies have slightly cheaper vehicles, so you are likely to see some.

Not sure if the boss on the bike will be that useful...if you drive him away from the boyz he's toast.

If you dropped the bikes in list 2 you could add in a komandos unit for objective grabbing. Not sure if that's any better.

Unfortunately there are only a few things in the Index, that are likely to deal with tanks. So you could even try to build a list that simply ignores them.

The second one is better overall, the main problem of the first one is that you lack objective holders and the artillery is excellent for that job. Sure you have 3 units instead of one that could assault turn 1 but a blob of 120 boyz with KFF and a painboy is very hard to deal at 1200 points and with the artillery you can advance and teleport all of them without wasting units in your backfield just to score points. Ghaz is amazing but probably too expensive for that format.

I'd just try to find the points for a painboy, maybe cutting a KMK and some kustom shootas. I'd keep the bikers for the HQs since they're the only mobile units in your list and they can grab objectives in later turns.

I like the hqs on bikes for getting into position reliably to buff the boyz.

Although if I drop the bikes I can squeeze more into the list.

comes out to 1198 with some more versatility but less mobility. I could also cut a unit of kommandos and 1 weirdboy to get my warboss and big mek their bikes back and have 1 less command point and 21 points to spend on big choppas and kustom shootas.
