Just starting a campaign in my local club, and i'll be up against CSM, IG, Marine, and Nids.
We're playing off power levels, starting at 30 and going up 5 points or so every couple of weeks until we hit 100.

My list is simple, but not flexible.

Patrol detachment

Warboss, Kombi Skorcha, attack squig, PK (4PL)

Boss Nob, PK, Kombi-skorcha, 13x Choppa Slugga Boyz, 13x Shoota Boyz, 3x Rokkit Boyz (13PL)

Boss Nob, PK, Kombi-skorcha, 13x Choppa Slugga Boyz, 13x Shoota Boyz, 3x Rokkit Boyz (13PL)

Total 30PL

I can only build up in the future from this list, and I realise that at this level it'll be tough, slow, and inflexible. I appreciate any input or ideas.

This is actually a great start. You have got a warboss and some boyz. You can easily build from here.

Next, I'd look to maybe get a Painboy to help make your boyz more resilient. Would be nice to get some fire support and Mek Gunz will Kustom Mega Kannons are pretty effective and cheap. Good luck.

Weirdboy > Painboy and Da Jump will really help to make your army more dynamic.

Since you know the format of the campaign you should have a plan for how you will expand your army, at least in draft.

I'd suggest that maybe you could shrink one of the units of boys, and then adding those boys, later, will help your horde grow more resilient in the face of your enemies adaptations.

Classic 40k doctrine says that you want to take horde type lists with maxed out units and a lot of redundancy, to overwhelm your opponent and present no weak spots. But since ork units can mob up you can effectively save your smaller units from being focused off. You can even take 30 and 10 and mob them on the first turn. Orks therefore work best in a singular blob type army - an army with a center point of strength, and then a lot of peripheral units that need that strong point to survive.

So I would suggest that you try to fit the warboss, a second HQ and then 3 troop choices, if possible. One massive unit, and either 2 small units of boyz, or 1 small unit of boys and a small grot unit, however the powerlevel works out.

30 grots is a steal for the power level of 4.

Stormboyz, Kommandos, Big Gunz and Mek Gunz are all pretty good deals at their respective power level costs as well.

Since units of boyz are sort of expensive, in terms of powerlevel, you might want to add the third troops choice until later, when the games get a bit closer and you really need to optimize your CP

Bit of an update, got hold of the campaign rules and I'm going to have to make a couple of changes. First, it starts of at PL 30, one month later is PL45 and final month it's PL 60.

Everything you buy has to go into the next list, but you can increase unit size. The list must be battleforged and conform to minimum troop selections.

Month 1 30PL: 1x HQ, 1x Troop and 1 of either Elite, Fast attack, Flyer or Heavy
Month 2 45PL: Must be one unit type not selected last month
Month 3 60PL: Vehicle or Monstrous creature, no LoW.

My list is made up from Battlescribe;

Month 1 - PL 30 - Patrol Detachment
HQ

Weirdboy, da jump. PL4

Boyz, 10x shoota, 16x slugga, 3x rokkit, Boss Nob, PK, kombi-skorcha, PL13
10x Gretchin PL2

FAST ATTACK
29x StormBoyz, Boss Nob, PK

HEAVY
3X Big guns, Lobba PL4

FLYER
Dakkajet, 6x Supa Shoota PL7

Unfortunately, having to buy toys, means less Boyz, but I think these should be progressive and quite flexible. I toyed with having one less lobba from the outset to give me enough for a burna-bomma at the end, but I was balancing the impact of having one less lobba for 2 months against the fun of having a fun flaming suicide jet for the last month.
Thoughts?

I think it looks like a good time.
Although if you really want a suicide flier it's gotta be a burna bomma. Burna bomma has that fiery explosion result that can be so devastating to the enemy.

I've always really enjoyed tournaments with that kind of structure because it motivates people to try and tackle the challenge of painting an army in small chunks.

Gorkamorka was a lot like that, in that it allowed you to convert and modify your models to reflect the character that they developed on the battlefield, although it was smaller scale and more driven by squad leader type characters.

Anyway, I hope it goes well. Put up some pics of your painted models

I'm upto the PL45 games now and had a great game last night against Alpha Legion. Fortunately the organisers have allowed a little flex in the rules to suit particular armies, so I've been allowed to drop the lobbas, and take another Weirdboy with da jump.
It's to accommodate some of the guys wanting to run more flavoursome armies, like an all bike and speeder Ravenwing army, which is pure filth frankly.

I'm having a think about the last list at the moment, the combination of jumping mobs and StormBoyz is fast and flexible as is dropping Weirdboyz in for Warpath and smite shenanigans is nice. I like the idea of the dakkajet, but I'm toying with maybe Mad Dok Grotsnik to support the weirdboyz. I'll see how the next few games run out.

Last night's game was really heavy in my favour though, playing the Blitz with me as the attacker. Simply put, I was able to sit my da jump weird boy at the back, hidden and screened behind a until of grots and throw everything forward. Any unit that got wiped out, I got back on a 4+/ 2+ at the end of my next movement. The legion were only able to wipe one unit of 20 Boyz, and one unit of storm Boyz before they got wiped.

Here's a couple of pics from the game. Alpha Legion with 2 units of tactical marines, one with some sort of mortal wounds banner, 1 unit of terminators, a unit of havocs and a chaos lord.
First turn I was able to charge the unit on the right with the stormBoyz, kill everyone except a champion, and then got eradicated by return fire. Mob of 20 Boyz jumped behind buildings at the back of the table.
Turn 2 mob advances out behind building towards Havoks, and da jump Warboss in amongst them. Charge both into havoc and eradicate them, return fire finishes them off, Warboss down to 2 wounds. StormBoyz come in at back table edge.
Turn 3, stormBoyz race half way up the table, second mob of Boyz jumped behind alpha legion, out of range of bolter, weird Boyz and grot all come out of cover and start running up the field behind the storm Boyz.
Turn 4, Warpath goes on the storm Boyz who then smash into the terminators and Lord, lose 3 to overwatch, and 4 to full throttle, kill 3 terminators and wound the Lord, I then wrap around the squad ensuring none escape. Another unit of Boyz da jumped in to bubble wrap the Warboss, and threaten last remaining tactical squad, charge for them fails.
Alpha legion terminators strike back against my storm Boyz, and then pay 2cp to hit with Lord before the Boyz. Last two terminators killed, and Lord surrounded with another wound off.
Turn 5, Boyz and Warboss charge into remaining tactical squad, skorcha shooting from the Warboss killed 3 marines, as did the nob's kombi skorcha! D6 Auto hits are evil. Remaining marines hacked into mulch. Second weirdboy is da jumped behind the storm Boyz and chaos Lord, and he smites the Lord for 3 mortal wounds. Boyz then finish him off. Game ends as there is only one solitary marine left standing.
